I always dreamed of the world into which I was always absorbed: The World of Yaraguayey. I had read fiction books about it but always went to this world only at night when I was asleep. I experienced the events I had read in the day. I had always wanted to really go the world but being Shepherd’s son, I could not even imagine going there. And the books? Oh, I meant the two books I had found in the Nightingale forest tied in a bundle. It was a solemn place in the night but in the early morning, it was filled with songs the nightingale sang. I always liked to listen to it as I was taking the sheep to graze in the mountains. One day, as I was opening the door of the pen in which I kept my sheep, one sheep darted out into the forest. I quickly closed the door and ran after the sheep. I ran and ran and ran until he came across his dead sheep whose heart was torn open. Near it was standing a mean looking wolf. I took a dagger from my belt which I kept solely for this purpose and plunged it into the heart of the wolf. I was about to take the wolf carcass for my food when I saw a wounded old man lying near the trunk of a great oak tree. Near the man was a long cane. Forgetting the wolf carcass, I bundled the old man upon my shoulders and took his cane and went home. I tirelessly tended to the man and dressed his wounds the best he could. After five days, the old man regained consciousness. He asked that where was he to which I replied:” Why, sir, you are in the kingdom of Poliguayey”. He then asked “Child, what happened?” and I told him the story. Hearing that I had killed the wolf, the man exclaimed and then introduced himself as The Great Mage, Wagan and told, “You must accompany me to the lands of Yaraguayey. You are The One that the old prophecies had told off and I will tell you my story later.” What happened next was astonishing; Wagan led me straight into the Nightingale Forest and next to an old oak tree near which Wagan was lying wounded. I was surprised to see Wolf’s body glowing plainly in the daylight. Wagan told me to remove a certain sapphire from the body of the wolf and as I was doing it, Wagan told me” My land is being troubled by the evil Draskelton, a terrible dragon covered entirely in bones and that the gem you are holding is the gem of healing and that by removing it, the Lord Commander of Draskelton, which is the wolf you see would die.” Having done so, the body stopped glowing and Wagan told me to plunge his hand straight into the trunk of the oak tree. Wagan being older and wiser, I obeyed, surprised at my hand going straight into the trunk. I then totally stepped into the oak tree only to see a different country. I then saw Wagan emerging too from the oak tree. Wagan told me “This is only a world in which there is another way to Yaraguayey and we must continue north.” Wagan summons a carpet from his magic stick and then continue flying. We saw a gorge and Wagan lowered the carpet. I saw two griffins of either side of a narrow bridge. I heard something talking and was surprised to find the griffins come to life. Wagan then told me “Child, these are the guardians of the way into the Yaraguayey and you must complete whatever task they give you to go into Yaraguayey.” One of the griffins said” Wagan, you must go west and make a camp. We will give him a task.” Wagan, having done, the other griffin addressed me “Now you, go to the centre of the bridge and get us two black pigeons sitting in the centre of the bridge. They are not ordinary pigeons, they spit fire and acid. Here are some things for you.” It gave me a bag into which was some water and some whitish powder, which looked like chalk. I took it and went to the middle. There were two black pigeons there. As I crept near them, one of the pigeon’s spit fire. I hurriedly retracted and suddenly a brainwave came to me. I realized that the white substance was a powder which when you mix with water shoots out like a big fountain. I used it and confused the pigeons and then stuffed both the pigeons into the bag and then presented them to the griffins. They allowed me to pass. Wagan joined me too. After the centre part of the bridge, we got into the Yaraguayey which can only be accessed through the portal into the centre of the bridge. Wagan pointed me to a mountain range and told me “That is the mountain range The Otto, which means fear. On it rested the Draskelton. You have to go and first destroy forces of Draskelton and then himself. You will know who he is when you see him. First, let’s go to my village.” On reaching the village, I saw that it was empty. “Where is everyone?” I thought. As if reading my thoughts, Wagan answered, “Everyone has gone to the capital risking their lives this close to the mountain. Therefore, Draskelton has not wreaked havoc here. All other villages are burnt. Come on, let’s go to my house.” We approached Wagan’s house and we went inside. He said “I’ll give a special sword protected by many runes. However, to make the sword yours, you have to lift it and insert a gem into its handle. However, you have to find such a gem.” I quickly said, “I have the healing gem. Show me the sword.” He gave me the sword and I inserted the gem. The sword glowed an eerie green. I set out on my journey. Along the way, I practiced with the sword. It seemed perfectly balanced in my hands. I finally reached the mountain top. I heard some noise nearby, so I quickly hid in a bush. I saw three terrible monsters coming out a hole in the mountain which I had not seen before. I waited until their back was to the bush and then I ran for them with the sword in my hand. One of them turned around to see a sword striking his head and the next second he laid dead. The other monsters had now noticed the noise and were advancing towards me when one of them threw a spear aimed at my heart. I jumped over it and grabbed the spear in the mid-air and threw it back towards him. He was dead in the next second and I had not noticed the third one before it was too late. He strokes me across the heart with his claws. I fell to the ground and one hand went limp. He came slowly towards me, thinking I was defeated. I lifted my one hand and drove the sword into the forehead. I sit up and walks to the hole. Astonishingly, I find that I can operate my hand. I found the green glow over my arm. I identified the power of the Healing Gem. I then descended into the cave to find the dragon. I eventually came into a big opening in the cave where a big dragon was sitting. Around him were beasts of all sorts. They all parted aside and I got a better look at the dragon. He was terrible; a white dragon covered with black bones. In size; he was enormous and he stood for me to speak. I cleared my throat and said, “I have come to defeat you. I want to have a one on one duel with you. Me, with my sword and you, with nothing else other than your body.” The Draskelton grunted in reply and all of the beasts moved back. I took my sword in my hand. Suddenly, I was on my back and blood was pouring from my temple. I staggered back on my feet and stroke the sword. It left a nasty gash on his hand. He stroke me again but I ducked and wielding the sword, I struck his hand. This time, he stroke me and it hit me. There was laughter all around. I lay on the floor, unable to get up. Slowly but steadily, I regained my power as the Healing Gem did its work. I got up quickly and ran immediately after the dragon. I saw him with his back to me. He was turning around when I saw that there was a deep gash on his back. I ran and jumped onto his back and slung the sword into the gash. The gash broadened and the sword penetrated the spine. I took the sword from the back and the dragon moaned and next second he was dead. Instead of the corpse lying, it dissipated into a black wisp and there was another gem, a black one and it automatically joined the green one in my sword and the gem of the sword turned black. There was a lot of unrest in the beasts. Suddenly, a wolf howled and all of the beasts started to come after me. I ran and came out of the cave and ran till I reached Wagan’s village. I passed by his house and shouted,” If you need me, call me.” Saying this, I crossed the bridge and pausing for a breath, managed to locate the flying mat left by Wagan. I climbed onto it and flew southerly and there a saw a small part of my world. I stepped from onto the mat and went through the gap into my world. I returned to my house. There were a group of king’s soldiers there. They explained to me,” There are rumours of you killing some wolf. The king wants some brave men into his army. That’s why we are here. You got a fine sword there.” I now notice that I had been holding my sword. I was soon made a soldier in the king’s army and later was knighted. I was only made a general and I called my sword ’Dragonglass’. It had healing power as well as it could strike through easily as if they were paper. And I never forgot Yaraguayey.
