Looking out the small sphere window, my heart sinks to my feet. All I see is blackness and ribbons of light flashing by. It has been like this since the day I was born, eight whole years of blackness. Time is different out here. It continuously changes with each galaxy and Solar System we go to or the further we are from black holes. Time is always changing. We use Earth's time only so we can keep track of our age and days. I have studied time, but it still confuses me.
Before my parents even knew each other, they decided to leave their world and discover if there was any life out here in space. They found no one and nothing during their ten year search.
I did not choose this life, if I had a choice, I would want to grow up, in what they call a neighborhood, with green grass on the ground and boys my age, who I could call my friends. I have no real friends. There are other children, but they are not the same age as me.
NASA sent fifteen young adults into space -first to the moon, then to Mars but that mission failed because they did not have enough food or oxygen to last for the duration of the mission. They discovered how to move a ship at light speed after the Mars mission in a way where the velocity of the ship does not rip your face off. After the discovery, we traveled to new galaxies searching for where new humans could live. When planet Earth collapsed five earth years ago, humans have been living on our new planet "Kepler" which we discovered twelve years ago. Now that humans have a home, they sent out people to find new life.
I am much smarter than most eight year olds who live on planets, they say the learning process is a lot faster when you are in space only because they like to teach faster so the teachers can focus on helping with the ship.
As I was working on my studies one day, all of a sudden I hear stomping getting louder and louder, "Jack!" as my mom burst into the room, "You have to come with me NOW!"
"What? Mom, I'm confused, what's happening? Is this a drill? Why aren't the sirens going?"  She didn't answer me, she just grabbed my wrist and and dragged me towards the metal door and out into the hallway, running past all of the safety tools hanging on the walls, pipes running down the sides. The ship suddenly switched out of light speed.
But, we're supposed to have a direct route to the next Solar System? This doesn't make any sense??
My mom and I turned right, ran until the hallway ended. I glimpsed at the window, seeing the darkness, but it looked different... At the moment I couldn't remember what this kind of darkness meant, I learned it one time but I couldn't recall what it was. We turned right again and ran towards the end of the ship. As we were running I saw all of the other kids coming the same way. Jessica's mom was carrying her, deep lines cut her smooth and brown, thin bangs hanging wet against her pale skin. Dwayne held his Dad's hand tripping over himself as he tried to keep up with his dad; his blonde hair was bouncing wildly as he ran. A few other kids were running, one with red hair, he looked only 4 and another one with dirty blonde hair, she only looked 2. This did not make any sense.
"Get your space suit on, Honey." Mom said.
"Why? What's happening? Why aren't the sirens going?" I asked, lifting the heavy black suit off the hook at the end of the hall.
"I'll explain later, for now, put your suit on." I put my suit on quickly, mom took my hand and we ran toward a Pod.
"Mom? Why aren't you putting your suit on?" I asked, my voice so thin it squeaked out.
"Don't worry about me." She said, tears streaming down from her green eyes. The sirens started going and my heart started racing. I whipped my head towards mom, frightened out of my mind. She cupped my face with her delicate, soft hands, "Honey" She paused, catching her breath, "There's a black hole." I began panting so fast I thought I was going to wear out my lungs. "The gravitational pull is too strong for our ship to handle, they're calling for an evacuation, all of the children are required to evacuate first." I clutch her hands trying to pull her to me, I read, learned about and passed by black holes but all from a distance. It never occurred to me that we would be sucked into one. It always seemed an impossible thing, but now that it's actually happening?!
"Jack! Jack!" My mom said, shaking me. "Break out of it! We have to go!" she pulled me towards the Pod room past the mechanic room.
Three year old Jessica and five year old Dwayne were going into the same Pod I was. Their mother's were tightening up their suits and preparing them for the evacuation. I already tightened up my suit and was putting on my helmet. As I stared at my mom with my helmet lid open. I saw her wet and red face heartbroken, this was by far the hardest thing she had to do. She did not say a word, it was too hard for her to, she leaned in and kissed my forehead and mouthed goodbye; Inside, I felt my heart crush in that moment. I missed her already even though she was still in front of me. Mom closed my helmet and brought me inside the Pod. I smiled, she smiled. I look to my left and saw some loose items shaking, I scrunch my face, confused. The ship started shaking like an earthquake, I look up, realizing I'm on the floor as well as my mom, Jessica, and Dwayne; I see mom's worried face, that's when I realize what's actually happening. The ship jerked as if it hit something really big and hard, a giant red, orange and yellow cloud rose up pushing me backwards towards the back of the Pod, suddenly everything went dark.
When I opened my eyes, I was floating, everything felt slower than normal, my breathing was heavy; pieces of the ship are scattered throughout space outside of a Solar System in the distance. There is no black hole, just pieces of metal everywhere. I looked to my right and saw bodies, everywhere; It freaked me out, I jerked with frightfulness. I saw no movement in anyone. I was and am the only survivor of the wreck. I do not know how it is possible, but I am alive. I look at my oxygen tank, it read 20, which means I only have twenty minutes remaining time of oxygen. I do not know how long I blacked out, but I was supposed to to get twenty-four hours of oxygen. There are no rescuers.
I am in the middle of a galaxy with only twenty minutes of time.
I... am going to die out here alone.... everyone else is dead, I will suffocate out here.
