She looks out her window and she can see the hill, the sunshine turning it a brilliant green.  Over the hill there is a forest, she cannot see it but she knows that it is there. It is called the Forest of Dreams.  Those who go there will have their dreams come true, or their nightmares turn into reality.  It could be one or it could be the other, but most likely it will be both.

He comes up behind her and puts his  arms around her, pulling her into him. He kisses her cheek. Are you ready?

She is. They leave the house and walk up the hill. His hand in hers, interlocked, tight. The sun is so bright, next to her he is glowing.  His arm is around her shoulders now.  Protective. Possessive. She leans in closer to him. They walk as if they are one, up the hill and then they are at the top.  And below them is the Forest of Dreams.

They pause, before going into the forest. She looks at him and wonders what it will bring.  Foreboding engulfs her, does he feel it too? He turns and looks at her, his eyes full of wonder and excitement, he does not feel it too.  So she squeezes his hand and they walk into the forest.

Don’t worry, he says, your dreams are my dreams.  They continue into the forest, she looks to her right and he is there against a backdrop of beautiful trees, the sun shining through, hundreds of shades of green, each one more vibrant than the last.

She looks to her left and behind the empty space beside her the trees are dark and cold, it is hard to imagine any sunshine has ever lit those trees. Suddenly his hand is not in her hand anymore, he is walking into the trees.  She goes to follow him but then he is running. She closes her eyes and when she opens them, he has disappeared.  She turns and the dark trees are in front of her, she turns back to the luminous trees, but they are gone. The blackness is all around her.  She turns towards the entrance of the forest and she starts running, running into the blackness, away from the blackness.

And then it is gone.  She sees the hill, she runs to the top of the hill and sees her home.   She turns again and sees the Forest of Dreams. She imagines him, dancing in the light.  She hears his words, your dreams are my dreams. She sits down and she waits for him.
