Can you feel it building, filling you with dread?

This fear that you are feeling is messing with your head.

You want to get on to that plane, you really need to fly

but you’re fearing there will be a crash and you will surely die.

There’s a presentation coming up and you’ve been picked to make it,

you have a fear of falling flat and no confidence to fake it;

you fear that you will lose your voice or just become tongue-tied

and the anxiety is so extreme it makes you want to hide.

Or maybe in the darkness it creeps up on you, this fear,

your mind can’t find a reason for the noises that you hear.

And then, there in the shadows, did you see something move?

You’ll have to turn the light on for your fear to soothe.

Or what about that saying – the one that goes ‘I fear for you’,

there is some reason for that worry that you must surely view;

it might be based on reason or on some perceived fact

but maybe it’s best silenced to keep a relationship intact.

I, myself, have many fears, the biggest is to trust,

I’d made myself a promise that distrust, it is a must.

I know that it is built upon a fear of being stabbed

deep between the shoulder blades when deceit is had.

But maybe I have conquered it, suppressed that stupid fear,

for I have trusted you, my friend, I hope I made that clear!
