Think you’ve outgrown fairy-tales? Well think again! The Contest brings the fairy-tale Kingdom of Cyberia right up to date, with on-line match making, speed dating, cyber spells and, of course, love rivals.
Meet the hard up King and Queen of Cyberia and their feisty, rebellious daughter, HRH Princess Eemay, who considers royal tradition stuffy and old fashioned.
She is outraged to find out that on her eighteenth birthday, in accordance with Royal Law, she must begin a search to find her perfect prince to marry.
Feeling too young to settle down and fed up of constant and heated arguments with her parents, she cunningly decides to co-operate with their match making attempts, but fully intends to reject every prince introduced to her.
Join Eemay at a hilarious speed dating event at the palace
Find out what happens when the King organises The Contest, to find her perfect prince.
Join Eemay at her eighteenth birthday ball, funded by a sponsorship deal with a glossy magazine, and where The Contest begins.
Follow the unexpected turn of events that change the course of her life.
Prepare to be shocked, amused and enthralled in equal measure.

Whoops! Hit that ol' 'return' button too quickly, there.

Excellent escapism book for young-minded grown ups and old-minded youngsters with a sense of humour.

Fantastic descriptions at the beginning describing the castle. It seems as if her parents obligation is just as derelict as the castle, though they do have a point as far as tradition. But still, what a sticky predicament, a difficult pill to swallow. Adult good should be about spreading your wings, not being stifled with an obligation to marry someone- and especially not to make babies!

I’m such a sucker for YA romance and this definitely fits the bill, Sue. Reminds me of Kiera Cass’ The Selection. Love this. Great write.

Oh, this is off to a great start! I love the atmosphere of the castle... so serene (almost a little creepy), contrasted sharply with the hubub going on inside! XD Oh my goodness, I'd forgotten how much fun these characters are. If I were in Eemay's shoes I'd probably want to quit, too, lol. Love the description of her father as a gaping goldfish... I can already tell I'm going to enjoy this a lot!

I'm totally blown away by your descriptions, well written! I have to be honest, I'm not very familiar with first person, so I'm a bit out of my depth. I can't really critique as a writer, so I'll just let you know where I got hung up as a reader instead. The beginning couple paragraphs and the last sentence are in a narrator voice and the rest is in Emmy's perspective. Is that typical for first person? I got a fairy tale feel from it, which I think is what you're going for with it. Because most fairy tales are narrated when there's a bridge between scenes or characters, that's what this felt like. If that is what's going on, you did it very well :) I'm sorry I can't help more, the writing is beautifully done and the story is off to an interesting beginning.

Thank you so much, Riley, for reading and commenting. Writing for me is more of a hobby and this idea came to me after taking my two young grandsons to a pantomime, to bring the concept more up to date and current. I actually just went with the flow as I began writing it, so didn't really follow any rules of writing. I am heartened by your encouraging comment, I hope you continue to enjoy it, it is very much tongue in cheek, and could probably benefit from some editing!
I will definitely return the favour, and will put your book on my shelf, ready for reading. Thanks again, really appreciate it.
