One day, as Atlas stood, a snake slithered down from the world and bit his fingers.

Atlas shuddered, but did not drop the world. And the snake slithered away.

One day, as Atlas stood, a snake slithered down from the world and bit his shoulder.

Atlas groaned, but did not drop the world. And the snake slithered away.

One day, as Atlas stood, a snake slithered down from the world and bit his neck.

Atlas cried, but did not drop the world. And the snake slithered away.

One day, as Atlas stood, a snake slithered down from the world and bit his penis.

Atlas sobbed, but did not drop the world. And the snake slithered away.

One day, as Atlas stood, a snake slithered down from the world and bit his thigh.

Atlas shook, but he did not drop the world. And the snake slithered away.

One day, as Atlas stood, a snake slithered down from the world and bit his heel.

Atlas winced, but did not drop the world. And the snake slithered away.

One day, as Atlas stood, a snake slithered down and bit his toe.

Atlas sighed, for he knew that the world was the source of all snakes.

So he put down the world, and it rolled away and was destroyed.

And lo, the snakes were destroyed, along with all the sheep and goats, and Atlas was alone.

Atlas waited a very long time, but nothing else happened.

And in his sorrow over what he'd done, he took his own life.

And lo, there was no-one left but those seven snakes who had slithered away.
