  AN UNKINDNESS

( A story told to me by my grandmother)

Once upon a time

there lived a father who just,

thought that his two grown girls

should leave the nest.

Married to a potter, the former,

the latter married a farmer.

A year had passed like a wind,

the father went to see how they lived.

The father met the potter’s wife,

who was sitting with tears in her eyes.

“Why are you crying dear?” he asked

“The rain had spoiled the pots as it passed”.

Seeing his daughter in pain,

the father wished it never rained.

Like the caring father wished,

the god granted it in a swish.

Then the father met the farmer’s wife,

who was sitting with tears in her eyes.

“Why are there tears in your eyes?” he cried,

“With no rain, all our crops died”.

With chaos and confusion in his mind,

the father didn’t know which way to side.

Either rain or hay,

Or sun or clay.

This story is ancient old.

But the theme rests in our soul.

The choices we make lead us

to nature’s unkindness.

Choose your steps wise

Or pay the price.
