“Ocean Blue”

The evening is at ease

and so am I.

Powerful, blue waves

crawling towards shore,

rumbling on for miles and miles.

Faint laughs of ambitious children

splashing and jumping

over wave after wave.

A salty taste

coats my lips

as I savor the last few bites

of a turkey and cheese sandwich.

Leaning back,

hands sinking in the soft sand

while breathing in fresh, crisp air

I think to myself,

“man this is the life.”

Cute, delicate rocks and shells

decorate the ground around me.

Skin still oily from globs of sunscreen

applied earlier,

I stroke the side of a smooth

piece of driftwood.

Inhaling a fishy aroma of sea critters

and undersea life,

my mind wanders,

filled with curiosity

about the secrets

hidden beneath the great sea.

A pesky seagull to the right

admires the young girl

carrying a scrumptious ice cream treat.

But as the next cool breeze arrives,

prickling the hairs on my arms,

it takes flight

trailing off into the distance

sailing into the depths of a

pinkish, purple sunset.
