Critical.

Hopelessness and despair permeates the very air,

So much pressure not to fail becoming just too much to bear.

Self-worth valued right at nil, there really is no doubt

That confidence, or what there was, has finally drained out.

It’s a total suffocation, an abandonment of hope;

A futility that’s so severe I simply cannot cope.

A desensitising numbness, to not notice what I feel;

An incidence of madness, just to banish what is ‘real’.

But, damn it all, I won’t give up, I’ll put up a fight;

I’ll struggle my way through the mist until it’s out of sight.

It’s a constant battle, and one that I can’t win,

But it doesn’t mean that I’ll back down and finally give in.

All the criticisms and the insults, they can just go past,

I’m going to make them meaningless, effectively not last.
