A Walk Down the Lane by Allen Henriquez

Cardwell Lane south of

the main road onto a path

This lane filled with memories and pain

Where many arrived and few

departed but yet did so

under unnatural circumstances

and in a state of being no

longer in the being

Cardwell Lane where you get your head bad

did bad then laid out on

the ground looking for

nothing that was your arrival

and now departure

Cardwell Lane littered with cigarettes

dice broken bottles spent

bullets blood stains and the removed

remains after

No reason nothing special no

emergency just sick of life

Sick in the belly

Feeling ready to

fly so they do battle and

die

There’s one in every city

We all know

it’s true

there’s one right near you
