The life of the world had died that night,
The dying leaves, the diming light,
And Death did nothing as he held her hand,
And no one around could understand,
That now Death had lost his only friend,
No more new life would see again,
A mother's smile, the morning sun,
The age of loss had now begun,
For now that Life gave her final breath,
The children now belonged to Death.
