Some say he’s an urban legend; others say he existed. But only one thing is for sure; someone stopped the Silver Bullet Gang. If that man was Johnny Blaze or not, is unsure. But over 166 years later a story about a heroic man saving a city from enormous terror is still being told today.
In the year 1850, a tall brown haired man walked into a large old-fashioned saloon in southern Michigan. His long ponytail bounced off his back after every long stride that he took. Then he sat on the first wooden stool he saw, then placed his metal revolver on the damp table that had been previously drenched with a variety of alcoholic beverages.
“What can I get for you sir.” asked the kind gentleman behind the table
“Whatever I can get with this” gently said the long haired man
Then the man pulled out 10 cents. The bartender brought him a whiskey and took the man’s change. Then the waiter noticed how built the man was and how his physique matched almost perfection. He also noticed how young the man was. The bartender thought he couldn’t be anywhere over 25 years of age. But that man sitting before him enjoying the whiskey just turned 1,000 years old. Of course, the person couldn’t possibly know that the young looking man was almost ten times as old as America. That man sitting there was dressed like a normal man, looked like a normal man, sounded normal and yes, even smelled normal. But he wasn’t. He was Johnny Blaze.
Johnny was born in the year 850 in Rome. His name was originally Caesar Aelius. His mother was a big believer in her religion. She prayed every night of her pregnancy for a healthy baby. She prayed to the god Jupiter, the mighty king of gods, and asked for her child to be strong since Jupiter was also the god of strength. She also prayed to the goddess Bellona, the god of war, and prayed that if the time came and he had to go to war that he was ready. And finally, she prayed to the god Janus, the god of beginnings and endings, and prayed that her baby would not face an end.
Eventually, these prayers were granted, and Johnny Blaze was born, and he was something that the world had never seen. After around his 23rd birthday, he stopped aging. 40 years later, still in his 23-year-old body, his mother passed away in her sleep. So Caeser ran to what is now present-day Iceland and befriended a pair of Vikings. With them, he grew more muscular than ever and more athletic than anybody had ever been before. After a couple of years, he felt like the Viking life wasn't for him, so he traveled more and more. He learned many things along the way. He learned different ways to fight and become strong. He learned to jump higher than a flying hawk and become as strong as a wild bear. He also learned to run faster than any hyena that came his way. Then centuries later, in 1849 the California gold rush grabbed his attention. So he made his way to America to search for gold.
About a year later he lost interest in looking for the gold, so then he stopped looking but stayed because he liked the scenery. He then finally arrived in Michigan. Johnny felt proud and accomplished after seeing many cowboys. He felt this way because he was the first cowboy. He was first noticed as a cowboy in 14th century Spain. But he was in Michigan for no particular reason. But on occasion, he thought he heard his mother’s voice in the direction of the strange town while he was coming here. He finally made it and stopped in a Saloon to get a drink.
He was still flummoxed on why or how he heard his mother’s voice. He was still depressed over her death even though she passed away hundreds of years ago. Since he was immortal, he learned to cope with beloved friends perishing. He used his bright humor to overcome the feeling of loss. He began to tear up a little when he thought of his mother, so he stopped thinking about her and went back to his warm whiskey.
When he had about one sip left in his cup, the saloon doors burst open and out came two men with a handkerchief wrapped around their faces. They demanded all the money that the saloon had. As they went around the building with a bag collecting the money that the fearful people had Johnny Blaze was not phased by the criminal. As they got to him with the bag, he did not move but just stared into their eyes. One of the men pointed a gun at Blaze's head, and they demanded once more for the money. Then Johnny spoke one word and one word only. “No.”
The man holding the gun grew angry. He attempted to hit Johnny over the head with the barrel. But the immortal had lived many years and learned to defend himself against people. He then grabbed the barrel and kicked the man in the stomach. The delinquent flew back 50 feet and hit the wood floor with force. Horror shot into the other man’s eyes. He panicked and pointed the gun at Blaze. But he was too fast for him to shoot. Before the robber could get a finger on the trigger, Johnny’s whiskey glass clashed against his head and the cup broke into a million tiny little pieces.
The customers in the Saloon clapped in excitement for the hero. The man who was kicked was conscious but was heavily injured. He rose to his feet which took some attempts. But once he was okay to speak he said: “So you’re Johnny Blaze.”
Johnny stared at him. How could this man know who he was? He was bewildered. He then asked seriously “How do you know who I am?”
“Because I’m part of the Silver Bullet Gang” answered the man.
This did not answer Johnny’s question. This only made him more baffled than he already was.
“The Silver what gang.”  responded Johnny.
“The Silver Bullet Gang” the injured man couldn’t possibly have said that any slower. It was almost like he was insulting Blaze.
Still, Johnny was puzzled. So he tried to put this impossible puzzle together. But still, it did not add up. There was not the slightest possibility that some robbing hooligan could know who he was.
The man noticed the bumfuzzled look on Johnny’s face, so he took the time to explain.
“The Silver Bullet Gang is a group of Christian criminals that are on a path to stop you. While taking down this city and anyone who stands in the way. We found out about you through paintings of the Revolutionary War. And there you were. But one of my friends also saw you in the gold rush. You were unaged. So we did some more digging and found records and paintings of you and found who you are and what you are.”
Johnny Blaze was astonished. No one had ever been able to discover his gift of immortality. But he also felt humored. How was a group of hoodlums going to stop him? He was Johnny Blaze. He was too powerful and unstoppable.
“How do you think you will stop me? I am stronger than you and your entire gang,” explained Johnny
The man then took out his gun and pulled out the bullets. The bullets were so silver that it could make someone blind just by looking at them. “With these” he responded.
Blaze chuckled. He knew those bullets couldn't kill him or hurt him since nothing could. Then the man loaded one round. He fired the gun. The bullet pierced thru Johnny’s chest. For the first time in his very long life, he felt pain and felt one more thing that he never felt.  Defenseless.
“You see, we ‘hired’ a few scientists to concoct this bullet. They said it was powerful enough even to stop you.”
But Johnny Blaze was hardly listening. There were one million pounds on his chest. He couldn’t breathe. Then the criminal loaded the gun again and aimed it right at poor Johnny’s head. He was about to pull the trigger when one of the customers hit the shooter over the head with a chair. A few customers screamed for a doctor, and then one finally came. Johnny was losing gallons of blood. Quickly a doctor came, and after time Johnny could finally breathe, and the gang members had been arrested.
Once Johnny fully recovered he tried to leave the town as quickly as possible to escape the danger. But the voice of his deceased mother was calling in the distance. He couldn’t quite make out what the voice was telling him, but he could only assume it was to stay because every time he attempted to leave the sound would haunt him. He decided to stay to escape the ill thoughts of his mother.
Blaze soon came to understand that the Silver Bullet Gang was made up of 20 people who now is 18 since the two other ones from the saloon had been arrested. They all had a criminal past. And as the man in the bar said they were all Christian. So he went to where the criminals were being held to discuss with them why they wanted him to die.
As he stepped in prison, he immediately locked eyes with the gang member. Then he approached his cell and said. “Why do you seek to kill me?”
The bruised man sitting in the cell that he was bigger than replied “Us Christians believe that everything must come to an end. Even you Mr.Blaze. If you don’t, the only God knows the threats that might lurk in your future.” His voiced echoed throughout the prison
“Your silver bullets are about as dangerous as a gun without a trigger,” said Johnny. But both men knew that was a lie. Those bullets almost killed a man that could not feel pain and played death as if it was a game that he was undefeated in. After moments of intense staring, Blaze decided to leave since he got the answers that he so dearly wanted.
After his visit to the prison, he knew what he must do. He had to stop each member of the Silver Bullet Gang. But this seemed impossible. He was just an ordinary man when he was against their weapons. There was one weapon that Johnny had in his arsenal that revealed his mastery with the object. It was his composite bow that he used in the Byzantine Roman army. But how was a bow going to be a matchup against guns? This worried him did he stand a chance. Then he remembered what the man said in the saloon “We’ll take down this city and anyone who stands in our way.” There was no way out he thought. If he didn’t fight, they would eventually find him and kill him, But if he did fight there was a better chance of him dying.
He decided to fight. He gathered all his arrows and put what felt like 500 arrows in his brown quiver. He then went back to the prison where he told the criminal, whose name he learned to be Mike Williams, to tell his gang to meet him in the middle of the town to fight and attempt to kill him at high noon. And he did.
20 Minutes after that the whole town knew that there was going to be a fight that was going to have casualties at noon. Even President Zachary Taylor knew about it from a telegraph. On the walk to the location, Johnny grew nervous and anxious. There was an infinite number of butterflies in his stomach, and he walked faster than a sprinting horse to midtown. He was ready but scared.
18 men with cowboy boots and hats were on horses and rode about an inch away from Johnny. He didn’t even flinch. It was 11:59 and dozens of people were staring out their windows. Some brave enough to stand outside. All those people would die if Johnny could not defeat these men. Ding. The sound of the clock hit 12 starting the fight. From then on the noise of a bell signifies that a fight is starting. The men knew what the sound meant and grasped their weapons. Johnny was too swift and had already shot five arrows before one bullet was fired. All direct hits.; Now it was 13 to 1. Johnny realized that shots were coming so he took cover behind a building, but some of the bullets pierced through the wall and hit him. But none of the hits were fatal.
He felt two stinging spots across his leg and lower back. But he had to fight on. He shot three more arrows rapidly and then hid right behind the damaged building. Again all hit. Ten on 1. One of the men felt like he had a better chance taking Johnny out at a close distance. He was wrong.   Johnny heard him and stabbed him in the chest with one of the arrows and then reused it to fired at another enemy. The arrow pierced right through the targets eye. Eight on 1. Then more shots were fired. Out of the eight, only one connected and landed on his shoulder. That building could not provide too much more protection, so he decided to sprint his fastest with three bullets inside of him to a safe location. He needed coverage while he ran, though. So he shot two more arrows in the air that could of easily hit an airplane if they existed back then to distract the gang while ran for his life. And it worked. He got to the side of a farmers market and then heard a loud scream and a plop to the ground. One of the arrows connected on the top of the opponent's head.
He was running out of arrows, though. There were seven more gang members, and he had eight more arrows. He had fired all the arrows he could before they shot. He got out seven arrows intended for all 7 of his targets, but only four landed. He was again defenseless. Suddenly the loud sound of the shooting fired through the farmers market and all three bullets hit Johnny in the back. He flopped to the ground like a fish out of the water. He was sure he was going to die. Three loaded guns were pointed at his chest, and one shot and hit him straight through one of his lungs. And his eyes stretched to the size of a baseball and he took a massive gasp clinging to life. One more bullet would finish him off. He heard gunshots but none of them were intended for him. Each of them struck a member of the Silver Bullet Gang. But the question was who shot it. The answer was the brave citizens who stood outside. They couldn’t watch any longer and picked up the guns that had been dropped and opened fire on the criminals.
The Silver Bullet gang was dead. But the same fate could have been set upon Johnny as well. A doctor took Blaze to an old white house to help him recover from his wounds. The damage was done, and the injuries were fatal. He wasn’t going to survive. President Zachary Taylor was alerted immediately about the events that had to happen. He sat in the executive mansion upset. But to show respect for his actions, they renamed the executive mansion to The White House to honor his death place. Johnny knew he was going to die. He felt different. He felt happy. After many years apart from his loved ones he was going to be reunited. Seconds before his death it was said that he smiled in happiness. After a very long life, Johnny Blaze had died, but his memory still lives on.
