A Nightmare.

Last night I had a nightmare, it lasted all night long;

it really felt so very real, it was hard to see it wrong.

It wasn’t one of monsters, those out and seeking blood,

it wasn’t a catastrophe, a big freeze or a flood;

those I could have coped with, in some odd way enjoyed,

but this one got inside my head and with my mind it toyed.

It was one of those so every-day, until those problems rise,

problems that keep growing into ultra super-size.

The similarity to reality makes it seem so all too real,

an immense amount of panic is what it makes me feel;

the breathlessness, the shaking, the increasing need to scream,

they carry on regardless when I break out of that dream.

I feel discombobulated, not knowing where I am,

and these effects they still remain though it was a sham.

Give me dreams of monsters that for my blood will chase --

the other sort of nightmare I simply cannot face.
