House Of Cards

This house of cards is standing tall as though it’s made from rock;

the question is how will it stand through any sort of shock.

There is a lot of arguing which almost turns to a fight

but when it has all settled down I trip, to their delight.

I reach up a hand to find support, I push against a wall --

this house of cards is proving that it isn’t strong at all.

Where my hand makes contact, that card, it bends away

and if my eyes are truthful the whole structure starts to sway.

I move my hand as though it’s burnt but I’m a little late.

How much is the house damaged? We won’t have long to wait.

That card, it sort of buckles and then without a sound

it slips completely out of place and tumbles to the ground.

It’s quickly followed by another and soon there’s many more,

they silently fall one by one and now here goes the floor!

It’s a silent demolition but to watch it is still hard

and then there is just rubble made of wishes and of card.

They are fine when things are sunny but when those storms do brew

these houses made of playing cards are just no good to you.
