Nature’s Calendar

Nature must have a calendar

As I’m learning to my cost,

The first night of November

And I awake to frost.

I hadn’t watched the forecast

Or maybe I’d have known

Exactly what I should expect

From the weather charts they’d shown.

Last week I was in t-shirts,

No need for any more,

And now I need a jacket on

When I go out that door.

So it’s back to having fires,

And chopping up the wood --

If only I could hibernate

I’m very sure I would.
