Through love, a lesson is learned,

the brown hat brim reveals little of the man within,

we see the path that we have planed,

Stay with him when the light is dim.

He is a German, you are a traitor,

But who cares when it's for love,

Jail will only make you love him greater,

You dare to love, dare to dream.

You are running, running away,

Through forests and swamps you make your way,

From your enemy and your friend you must go,

You are like this through your jealousy.

You make contact, arrange a spot,

In Germany you are to meet,

On and on you must trot,

You do have to get there to be safe.

You hide everyday, hoping not to be found,

You search for food, but not for love,

Even in these terrible days, when to the ground you're bound,

You still have hope to see Franz again.

You are running, running away,

Through forests and swamps you make your way,

From your enemy and your friend you must go,

You are like this through your jealousy.

You make it, to the meeting place,

But nowhere is Franz, to be found,

When you turn, the armed men you face,

You stare straight at them, with their guns raised.

You now that you will never see him again,

Through love, a lesson is learned,

Never take an enemy to be a friend.
