Gut Instinct

Trust what you feel and go with the flow,

forget all the pieces of logic you know.

You’re picking up signals, reading them too,

working out who will be loyal to you.

So many people wear so many masks

trying to see through them is one of life’s tasks.

Words – well, a problem, so many are lies,

wielded by others to bring you down to size;

what is a story and what is a fact?

Can you discern with your mind still intact?

But bring in gut instinct and you might tell

just who are the people your trust they would sell;

mine leans to caution, and tends to distrust

and a wall of self-protection, it becomes a must.

But hey, it is saying that I can trust you

so rightly or wrongly that’s just what I’ll do.

You’ve become important, integral to me, but

I’m hoping I’m right to rely on my gut.
