Maimed

I lifted that barrier and opened the door

Don’ know why I can’t learn to believe no more.

I gave you that dagger, armed you with that knife,

now get on and use it and just take my life.

I’m shouting and screaming and howling in pain

to think I allowed you to attack and to maim;

that you twisted and tangled my soul into knots,

I wanted to trust you and that’s what I got.

I’m wounded and beaten and bleeding so much

And I’d always believed you had a gentle touch;

but a kiss of that steel and a slash of the blade

I’m thrashing around in the chaos I made.

Left in much blackness, surrounded by red

but the fact is this torture is just in my head.

Your hand never touched upon that wielded knife

my attacker was someone whose name, it is Life.
