SILENT D

The gift of life was given.

It had been going on for years.  I asked if they had something to keep me alive, longer.  This small US town was all I knew.  Then I noticed people living on.  The locals were taking pills to cure all ailments.  I had been away for some years.  To work in war torn lands.  I helped the poor to live again.  It was that which interested me in what I had come home to find.

Mister Johnson was the pharmacist.  He had made a new tablet.  From unearthly methods.  The town was living longer than any other place.  I sat in the town diner.  It was of the 1950’s era.  It had been like that in the 80’s and after 2000.  Now it is 3000 AD and people drive round in old fashioned cars.  Run on electric.  Food was in tablet form.  Milkshakes were now in a can.  The music played Elvis and Bob Marley.

What had I returned to?  I could not fathom it.  Every other place that I had come from, was changing into the same style.  I always thought fashion and trends came from Paris, London and New York.  Or by Facebook and Google.  I looked around me at the strange place.  I too was becoming like them.  It was impossible to stop it.  All thanks to the pill in my hand.  Silent D.  It is what fake dreams are made of.

THE END
