The Donald High School here in South Dakota is the biggest school around. It has one thousand two hundred students in it. My senior class this year has three hundred and fifty people. I am friends with most people but not the ones who are boor to me and my close friends.

“Hey Jason, what’s up?” said Bruce walking down the hall.

“Just getting to Chemistry class,” I answered.

“Okay I will catch you later,” responded Bruce.

“Bye bro,” I said walking into my class.

I have a project in this class due Monday and it is already Thursday. The worst part is I have a D in here, so I need to get help. Luckily there is a really smart kid named Peter that can help me.

So I said, “Excuse me Peter.”

“How can I help you,” Peter replied nervously.

“Can you help me out with this project,” I asked.

Peter answered “I am tutoring Lisa after school today but I can come tutor you tomorrow at five after math club is over.”

“That will be great, see you at my place tomorrow,” I said.

As I was walking home after school I remembered that Bruce said that there was a party at six tomorrow. That only gives me a little time to do my work with Peter. If I did not go I might have needed an aegis to protect me from Bruce. In my head I know that my school work is more important than a party, but on the other hand we do not really have too many parties like this and the kid throwing the party is opulent. I already have twenty two credits so who cares if I fail that class. I do not know Peters number to tell him not to come so I guess I have to let him come over because if not me getting help from him might be ephemeral.

I need to get home before it storms and I am still ten minutes away. The wind was cold and powerful. The clouds are grey and the sun is down .It was like a maelstrom out there.  The part of South Dakota where I live always gets bad storms in the spring. I am only seven minutes away but now it is starting to rain and I do not have a coat.

“Jason get in,” said Stephanie.

So I ran to the car and hopped right in. Stephanie is the girl I have liked since the beginning of eleventh grade but I rarely ever talk to her.

“Thank you for this ride,” I said.

She replied, “No problem.”

The ride was completely quiet until we got to my house.

“Thanks again and I would like to know if you are going to the party tomorrow,” I asked.

“I think so but I will let you know bye,” she replied.

“Okay bye Stephanie,” I said getting out of the car.

As I walked in my house I got a text from Peter. I did not read it right away because I had to take out the trash. When I was done I totally forgot to look at the phone and went inside. When I got in I ate my dinner that was made for me by my mom. We had steak with green beans on the side. I live with my mom and she does not talk to me so every dinner is silent. She is not a very nice person. Some call her deleterious do to her rudeness.

After I was done I went in my room. My phone was dead so I had to charge it to see what Peter said. So I went to bed. I woke back up at seven twenty. I look at my phone.

“Hi it is Peter I will not be able to come until five fifty and this is not my phone so I cannot text you back,” I read the message from Peter. That meant he was for sure coming over now.

Later that day I went and got a shower around midnight. When I got out I went and laid down for school the next day. I fell asleep about fifteen minutes later.

The next day at school Bruce reminded me of the party. I am a candor person but I played it off like I forgot about even though I clearly remembered. I only did it so I had an excuse for not going if I chose not to go. I was not sure if I was going to the party but Stephanie came up to me.

“Hey Jason I am going to the party for sure,” Stephanie said.

“Okay so am I,” I replied.

After we said bye I did not know what to do because that meant I really had to go now. So after school I fell asleep. I woke back up at five forty five. Around ten minutes later peter arrived. We did work for the first hour.

“I said there is a party I need to go to,” I said.

“I do not have a ride until eight,” Peter answered.

I talked him into going after twenty minutes of arguing. When we arrived Peter was very nervous. No one knew who he was because he has never went to a party or hung out with anyone besides his other nerd friends. Everyone was partying and drinking including me but Peter was not. So I walked up to him and got him to get a drink. The only thing he wanted was water or milk which was the antithesis of beer. I was going to let him go when Bruce came over and started to chant his name.

“Drink Peter drink!” Bruce was shouting.

So everyone started to chant it. Peter did not want to at all but he was under bad peer pressure and gave in. Peter took his first sip and nearly threw up but kept going. After he got through the first one they gave him another. Stephanie and I were the only ones that were not taking this facetious.

One after another Peter was drinking and drinking. Peter got to the point where he needed to go lay down. As he was laying down Bruce went in the room and handed him something.

“What did you give him?” I yelled.

“Just a little pill,” He said.

I went over to take it off of him but by the time I got over there he swallowed it. After he took the pill he started acting beastly. I knew something was going to happen and it was not going to be good. I sat there for a little bit with Stephanie talking about how Bruce is going to regret giving him that. I heard Peter’s phone go off. I looked at it and it was his mom asking if he was ready to leave. So I replied to the text saying no.

It was nine pm and the party was still going on. It kind of felt like the party was not going to end until the next day. That is how much fun everyone was having. When Stephanie left it started to get a little boring. That was only my opinion everyone else still thought it was an amazing time.

So I went to the room to check on Peter. There was a bad smell. The closer I was getting the worse it was getting. It smelt like a carrion. I opened the door and there Peter was hanging half way over the bed not breathing. I did not know what to do besides scream for help.

“Call 911!” I screamed.

Everyone came running up to see what happened. So once they saw him they called the police. Since it was late the only cop on duty was Chief Clark.

After they called him Bruce started to panic but in a matter of no time Clark showed up. He sent everyone out except for Bruce, the host of the party Cody and me.

“What happened here,” The chief shouted.

“We were drinking and I gave him a pill but I did not know it would hurt him,” Bruce cried out.

Once he said that Chief Clark arrested him and took him down town. He let the others go but I was too depressed to leave. He was my responsibility and I let him die.

I finally got home late that night and mine and Peter’s Parents were there crying. They kept on asking me what happened so I said “Bruce gave him a drug so they arrested him.” It took months for everyone to get over it but I never would.

In two weeks was graduation and instead of there being three hundred and fifty there will only be three hundred and forty eight students graduating. Do to the fact that one person passed away and the other got three years in state prison.

The day of graduation was here and Stephanie and I would be heading off to The University of Colorado State in just a few months. The day went fast and we could forget about what all happened that night.

The day finally came and we left South Dakota behind us. All of them negative thoughts weren’t thought of anymore.
