Elliot's Story: 1 - Julia

“Hello gorgeous,” the new girl, a hot blonde, said, slowly closing her locker. “What’s your name?”

“Elliot, Elliot Foster. You are?”

“Claudine Von Chanté, of course,” she glowed, flipping her luscious platinum-blonde hair. She crept up to me and showed me her schedule. “Any classes together?”

“Well, it looks like just science.”

“Pity. I wish we had more,” she pouted, turned on her heel, then walked to her homeroom. ‘That was weird,’ I thought.

The bell rang while I sat down to read “Eragon” for the fifth time. I reread my favorite quote, “Live in the present, remember the past, and fear not the future, for it doesn’t exist and it never shall. There is only now,” Saphira said. ‘What a beautiful book,’ I thought, just before Julia ran through the door and sat down next to me.

“Jules, why were you late?”

“It’s nothing, I just slept late,” she said, looking little sad.

After homeroom, I walked down the hall and went to the buses. We were going to the Smithsonian! I climbed on and sat next to Claudine. I pulled out “Eragon” and began reading. Before I knew it, we were there.

Ms. Moonpool, our World History teacher, separated us into groups. I was put into a small cluster of students, including Claudine. We were assigned to the National Museum of Asian Art. I waved to Julia as my group walked away into the first corridor.

“Why do you keep talking to that weirdo girl?” Claudine whispered.

“Who, Julia? Well, she is my… friend.” I felt my cheeks get red as I mentioned my crush.

“How do you like her? She’s hideous. I even heard from my BFF Charolette – we used to live next to each other – that Julia didn’t even tell her goodbye when she left to Pennsylvania!”

“That’s why I like you, too, because you are beautiful. Wow! Look at that statue!” I exclaimed, trying to change to subject.

“I like you, too, Elliot.” She brushed my messy brown hair out of my face and looked into my eyes. ‘No! This is not about to happen,’ I thought. ‘Not yet.’ She leaned in for a kiss, just barely brushing her lips against mine before I pulled away.

“Whoa! I like you and all, but not that much!” The other students watched in awe as Claudine turned away and began to cry. ‘What a snob,’ I thought.

My phone buzzed. ‘Who could be texting me during school hours?’ I pulled it out of my jean pocket, the soft black matte case brushing against my hands. The message said it was from Julia, and it read, ‘omg el, I’m lost! Help!’ I quickly typed back, my face contorting from a happy to a worried expression. ‘omg r u ok?’ I texted, putting a little worried face emoji at the end. She quickly responded. ‘ya, I’m fine.’ I felt so relieved when the message came through, so I told her one last thing. ‘I’ll look out for u, ttyl.’ Then I turned my phone off and stuffed it into my jacket pocket.

Not surprisingly, Claudine starting flirting with me again. ‘Can she ever stop? It’s getting annoying.’ We saw so many beautiful statues, and being the nerd I am, I knew a fact about almost every one of them. I sighed and decided to give Claudine another chance, since I really did like her. She faced me and I could tell she wanted to kiss me. I let her kiss me, and boy am I glad I did. As our lips touched, she twisted us behind a statue so the others couldn’t see. I felt like I was in another world. She was so gentle and sweet, and maybe I did like her a lot. We broke apart and I looked into her eyes, starting to get feelings for her.

“Elliot Foster, will you be my boyfriend?”

“Yes!” I peeped. This time I pulled her in again, and we kissed for even longer. I loved it. Finally, we broke apart, holding hands. ‘I do have feelings for Claudine! But what about Julia? She is so much sweeter and has a better personality. Ugh! Who do I choose?’ I turned to corner, and, before I knew it, I found myself lying on the floor underneath Julia – we had run into each other! Her face turned bright red and I felt mine do the same. Her golden-brown hair brushed against my face and sent a shiver down my spine.

“Oh! I’m so sorry!” I huffed.

“Oh, it’s not a problem!” She replied. Her light pink lips were so perfect; they seemed to put a trance on me when they moved.

“I still lost my group, can you help me find them… or at least find the buses?”

“Sure, but we better hurry. Everyone will be heading to the buses by now.” I grabbed her and began to run. As we ran, I noticed how her green shirt complemented her eyes, and something clicked inside of me. What was it? I didn’t know. Her features seemed like they enhanced before my eyes, making her eyes shine. Her legs moved so gracefully, once again putting me in a trace. I moved closer to her and slowed us down to a walk as we neared the bus, putting my arm around her waist and she moved hers to my shoulder.

As we came up to the bus, Claudine stopped me. Julia promised to save me a seat, so I was looking forward to the way back to school.

“Why do you keep hanging out with that creep? I’m telling you, she’s bad news.”

“Creep? She’s my friend!”

“Yeah, right. You were holding hands. Don’t you love me?” She purred. Claudine took my hands and began to swing them back and forth and I gave in. I kissed her one last time, but soon realized what I was doing and drew away quickly. ‘Wait a minute… Claudine was being a snob earlier… what happened? Why did I like her? She is a cheater and a liar. She has been seducing me with her sweet words and memorable kiss, and I began to like her! I have to end this, now!

“You know what? You’re the creep! You’re so clingy and obnoxious! Trying to make me love you just by your looks? Seducing me with a kiss? Trying to keep me away from my crush since 8th grade? You are such a –” I spat, stopping myself before I said something I would regret. “It’s over. Goodbye, Claudine. And don’t ever come back.” I felt flustered and ran onto the bus, smashing my butt against the seat. My anger nearly exploded out of my body, but sitting next to Julia made me feel a lot better. ‘How could I have let Claudine trick me like that?

“What a day, huh?” Julia asked, obviously seeing my fury.

“Yeah.” I said, trying to stay calm. We sat in silence the rest of the way back to school. I felt butterflies in my stomach as I looked at Julia. ‘Something about her is so wonderful…’ I thought.

As we walked to get our backpacks, I got an idea. I hid in the janitor’s closet and waited for Julia to walk by. Once I saw her white Converse and heard her beautiful singsong voice, pulled her inside. I yanked off her earbuds, threw her backpack on the ground, and put my hand over her mouth as she yelped. “Hush, it’s me, Elliot.” I whispered, pulling her close and closing the door, leaving us in the dark. The stench of gross school cleaner filled my nostrils, making me slightly gag. I put my hands on her hips and said, “I don’t know what it is, but every time I’m near you, I get this feeling, this strange, strange feeling, I think it’s… love.” I moved my hands up to her head and pulled her towards me, feeling no resistance. Our lips interlocked as we kissed. I felt a rush of energy as her hands traveled up my back and onto my neck. It was the most wonderful kiss I had ever had, even better than my kiss with Claudine. We separated, looking at each other in the darkness. I could faintly see her perfect features, which made me shiver. She twisted my head and pulled us back together, this one lasting longer than before. We separated, loving the moment. I brushed Julia’s hair out of her face and grasped her side once more. “Julia…” I said nervously. “Will you be my girlfriend?” She pulled me in for one last kiss, and I knew it meant yes. It seemed like it lasted forever, and I wish it did. My heart pounded as we kissed, and finally, after what seemed like generations, we separated, gasping for air. I hugged her and felt her love for me radiate through her touch. We opened the door, holding hands. We were officially a couple!
