No Pretences.

I once was learning acting but I wasn’t very good,

I had to be somebody else and do just what I should.

I’m not one for pretences, for putting on a mask,

to try to turn me into something else, it really is a task.

No, I’m not one for the make-up, the hair that’s done in style;

I am always who I am and have been for a while.

I’ve turned my back on fashion, I don’t care what they say,

I’ll just put on what I want on any given day.

I’m one that goes for hoodies, sweat pants instead of jeans,

And I’d have lots of jumpers if I only had the means.

I don’t own even a single dress or any type of skirt;

high heels don’t get a look in as I know they only hurt.

I’m a capitalist nightmare, all their adverts leave me cold,

no matter what they tell me I am not going to let them mould

me into being something that just goes against the grain --

the effort that would put on me would drive me quite insane.

I’m honest to a fault and will get openly upset,

but in my case it is really ‘What you see is what you get’.
