More than anything in the world I wanted to learn to mow.

I know that sounds silly, but I really, really did.  I see my dad doing it all the time.

It seemed easy enough.

And then the day came.

My dad decided to teach me how to mow.

I don’t know why he decided.

Maybe it was me nagging him every weekend.

Or maybe he thought I was finally ready.

So dad took me outside and gave me some goggles to protect my eyes.

He said, “Go ahead.  Give it a try.”

So I walked up to that mower like I was boss. I grabbed that string I always saw my dad pull.

I pulled as hard as I could.  Then I saw that the mower was coming right at me.

It bumped me a little, but it didn’t hurt.

Dad laughed and said, “You have to hold the handle and the gas in order to start the mower.”

With that I decided to give it another try.

I walked up to that mower like I was boss.

I grabbed that string again.

I grabbed the handle and the gas.

I pulled that string like I was trying to spin a top.

But nothing happened.

The mower didn’t start, but my butt sure got hurt.

That’s probably because when I pulled that cord I think I went spinning and landed square on my butt.

My dad laughed, “So you think you’re ready to mow?”

I looked at my dad and at the bottom of  my pants.

“No.  I’m good,” I said and I walked back in the house and never asked to mow again.
