The internet is defined as the global system of interconnected computer networks that use the internet protocols suite to link devices worldwide. The internet was not just thought of by one person alone but, by many different scientist whom hide the idea of a worldwide web. For instance, in the 1930s and 40s, Paul otlet and Vannevar Bush had the idea of mechanized searchable storage systems of books and media. The internet first started being developed in the late 1960s. Over the years, scientist found ways to input and improve the internet. Me being someone born in 1999, technology was very much so around. Life then and now revolved around the internet/technology. Without the internet, I wouldn’t be able to communicate with my friends and family has much. Although, I would be alot more active and rely heavily on books.

With that being said, in a world without the internet, I would be a lot more active. I have seen this to be true when I recently lost my phone and my computer wasn’t working. I got alot of things done, I went outside and I did things that I wouldn’t normally do when the internet was working. From losing my phone for that short period of time, I gained a newfound appreciation for the outdoors. In today’s society, people spend more time on their cellular devices than they do outdoors. People rely heavily on social media that it revolves around their life. According to an article The Nature Conservancy, “The vast majority of today’s kids use a computer, watch Tv or play video games on a daily basis, but only about 10 percent say they are spending time outdoors everyday”. Without the internet, I would be alot more connected to nature and the outdoors.

Furthermore, In a world without the internet, it would be harder for me to communicate with my family. My family live across the ocean from America and the only means of communication we have is through the internet. I rely on the to text my siblings and I rely on the internet to talk to them on the phone or video chat with them. In a world without the internet, I wouldn’t be able to communicate with my siblings has quickly has I can now. I would have to send them letters and it would take possibly months for me to receive a reply. I wouldn’t be able to virtually see them and I would have to wait until the next time i visit to see them. Life would be so much harder when it comes to communication because of the lack of advancement in technology.

Overall, the internet has it’s pros and cons. The internet connects the world, but also disconnect people from reality. The internet is incorporated into everyday routine for me and without it, I would have freedom to the world but also isolation from the world. Everything one needs in today’s day and age is at a click of a button, but without it, without the internet time extends.
