Greed can be a powerful thing. In this folk tale, some temptations are just too powerful to ignore. However, just how powerful are they? Read and find out!

There once was a man, wife, and unborn child. The man was an average person, with a steady-paying job, a happy marriage, and a nice, two-story home. One day, the man got a call from a higher-paying company. They had seen this man's work, and admired his skill level and creativity. They wanted him to work for their company.

The man, blissfully and excitedly, accepted the job and immediately set to work at his new job. The jobs were hard but fun. The people were nice, and the pay was high. As the man's paychecks flowed in each month, so did the man's greed.

With all of this new money, he could buy so much stuff that he has never had! A new car, a new house, a new pair of shoes. However, the more that he spent his money, the further apart his wife and him grew. The wife, being so hurt and angry, cursed her husband for his selfish act.

"With every dollar that you spend, may your face blacken and wither from the sin that you commit."

The husband just scoffed, and the wife and unborn child left. The man, being so caught up in his greed, paid no mind. However, as the man started to spend his money on things he surely did not need, his began to age along with his whole being. With every dollar that left his hand, the more his body aged. Wrinkles aligned his once youthful hands, and his body creaked and strained under his own weight. The man did not understand.

"Why do I age into an old man so unnaturally, when my birthday has passed only thirty times?"

With a start, his wife's words echoed through his head. As the older man started to realize his mistakes, he decided he would make up for his hellish mistake. Gathering all of the things that he had bought out of selfish greed, he began a yard sale. With each item that he sold, a little more of his youth returned to his death-ridden body.

Every wrinkle tightened to smooth skin, every dark spot lightened, and the olden bones regained their strength. The man rejuvenated with every penny that he earned back. When he was finally restored to his former self, he begged his wife for forgiveness. Seeing that her husband had cleaned himself of the sin, she agreed.

Moreover, from that day on, the man never spent another selfish penny.
