Cassandra looked at him intently as she drained her glass, those green emerald eyes intoxicating; jay could see the candle light in the dim lit room reflecting from them, as if a lost world of dancing shadows coming alive in her feline shaped face.  Cassandra quite carefully, set down her glass looking towards him then the bottle, her head tilted ever so slightly clueing him into her desire.

“Another then?” Jay smiled

Cassandra nodded, “Why good Sir, are you trying to take advantage of me?” she beamed, “You’ve barely looked at your glass much less, taken a drink”.

Jay laughed, “Of course, I suppose I should catch up”, as he refilled her glass,

Tilting his head he took a large draught of the elixir, feeling it’s warmth, it’s comfort.  He knew there was something different happening, although he couldn’t put his finger on it, this all felt so calculated, planned, his instincts gave the feeling he was ‘prey’.  He immediately dismissed the thought.

“So where are you from?” Jay asked

She grinned, seemingly thrilled by the question “Let’s see if you can guess?  Lets see if those Keen instincts can tell my story” she leaned in.

Leaning back, Jay crossed his arms, a smirk taking form “Well, I’d guess you’re not from here, anyways.  You don’t quite have the ‘Bay Area’ accent to you…..” he paused “Perhaps, the Midwest with some Southern influence, the vernacular you use a little older, maybe you’ve spent some time in Western Europe?  Your accentuate the ending of your sentences….maybe…..Virginia, or even Florida, D.C.; but I’d say you’d have spent some time in the South judging by your playful banter.”

“I…have definitely been all of those places.” Her eyes lit, looking slightly up and to the left

He looked up as the song played in the background, filling him with a sense of reminiscence

“How lucky can one guy be?
I kissed her and she kissed me
Like the fella once said,
"Ain't that a kick in the head?"

Finishing off his glass, Jay stood, offering her his hand “Mi’ lady, would you do me the honor?” he said in his best Southern accent.

Cassandra taking his hand stood, “Why of course Good Sir” she echoed in a much more convincing drawl; to show she understood his playful banter

She pulled herself in as Jay moved a hand to the small of her back, his smell intoxicating as he moved in synchronitic fashion simultaneously turning her to take her into him.

“This… why” she thought, she was slowly beginning to understand the infatuation with this man, her body melted into him as the moved slowly; a “dance by design” she thought.  She could feel her heart beat quicken in the moment; her skin flushing.

There was something here and she knew it intuitively, there was something older about Jay, something refined about this ‘Protector’, though she couldn’t quite put her finger on what exactly made her feel this way.  It had been one thousand years, since she had felt such natural comfort, such security.  “I don’t know who I set the trap for, him or me” the thought.

Jay sang in a light voice, as she rested her head on his powerful chest, she pulled tighter.

Almost in a whisper, he said the words

“The room was completely black,
I hugged her and she hugged back
Like the sailor said, quote,
Ain't that a hole in the boat?"

She could feel herself melting into him, Cassandra closed her eyes, dismissing the danger of the feeling for her.  There were others watching when she led this man into the pub, there were others watching as she boasted how she would steal the remaining innocence from this target.  There were others watching now as her eyes welled with gratitude for this feeling.

She let go of it, embraced the feeling his gentle arms careful to not betray his intent, this was not a forward man.  He had somehow been refined this way; this was taught.  As if he was a student of Cassandra herself, like he had studied her, knew her weakness.  In this moment, she knew the divine was conjured; this moment was a magic wasted on humankind.  She….would drink in every bit of tonight.

“There is something more here” she whispered,

“I’m sorry what?” Jay said moving her away slightly,

Cassandra looked up at him, her eyes meeting his brown eyes speckled with green, cloudy from time; his eyes were those of a man would had felt pain, but endured.

She whispered back to him, “Why…don’t you show me something special”

Jay thought and said “Absolutely”

As the song ended, Cassandra grabbed the barely tapped bottle of wine, nodding her head to the bartender as Jay led her towards the door;

“I think I know just the place” Jay said as he looked back at Cassandra.

She believed when she said "I bet; you do"
