Dogs Dinner

There’s something wrong with this dinner,

The turkey’s kind of tough,

The sprouts have turned to mush

And those potatoes sure look rough.

But somehow we’ll get through it,

It will work out fine;

To make it a bit more palatable

We’ll bring out lots of wine.

I’ll clear away the left-overs,

Try not to see how much

There still remains upon the plates

That not a soul would touch.

Now it’s time for something special,

A fantastic Christmas Pud.

I’m going to set it burning --

At least I think I should.

So bring on out that lighter,

Click up that blue-red flame,

I’d never have predicted

That I would get some blame.

Take that fire away from me,

Or I’ll aim it back at you!

You think that I am lying --

You’ll soon find out it’s true.

We all upped and left that table,

Departed at a run;

The dog was sitting under there

Having lots of fun.

His little game had worked out well,

The pudding had stayed intact,

The glasses were not emptied

And he’s delighted by that fact.

A drop of wine, it goes down well,

He’d never drunk so much;

He’d blame what next happened

On that alcohol induced touch.

The pudding, well, it sprouted legs,

He thought he counted four --

The dog, he was left barkless

As the pud ran for the door.

This canine caper had worked out wrong

But he’d go in search of scraps;

A dinner that had gone so wrong

Could make a doggy feast, perhaps!!
