I dreamt of the sun for so long

It seemed the years were centuries

With yearning heart I waited

I longed for it to shine down

To bask in its glory and feel warmth

With fading hope I wished my last wish

And so appeared at last a light

Too good to be true yet there it shone

And welcomed me into a magical world

Of delusion and beauty and kinship

It brought me to my knees from lying down

And helped me stand again in gentle trusting

It revived my weary heart so broken

From the age of disappointment and despair

And so it seemed I took some steps

Albeit baby ones, I ventured forth

Under its blinding light protected and safe

In its powerful rays that could so easily sting

Yet chose to nurture and caress

And so with new found spirit

I imagined days and days of summer

Never ending stretching ahead for ever more

Yet the sun it teased and hid behind clouds

And tickled the skies of grey that they

Did rain on me as I was just learning to fly

That sun that rose and brought me joy

Seemed destined to set and make me cry

And so confusion reigned within

The little girl that inhabits my mind

Resigned from her place in the stars

Broken and fragile much more than before

She plays only in the moonlight now

And retreats when the sun’s due to come

For she loves with nostalgia the time that it brought

But can’t empty from her soul
