Cold metal squeaks Old dead wood creaks I close my eyes but, Howling wind speaks The sky is dark The night so long I feel as though I don't belong A shadow looms just overhead I start to think, God, am I dead? My heart thumping, I feel like jumping But my feet are lead I close my eyes just one more time And find the voice that soothes my mind Despite my fear I strain to hear And feel the light, both mild and kind Alas, the dawn in finally here
