I've been writing all my life

On my forty year mission

Through all my stories and poems

Trying to find my inner Dylan

I tried to live like a writer

I nearly lost my mind

Studying all the great classics

Reading everything I could find.

Dylan became my idol

His words were so profound

I wanted to be just like him

And replicate his sound.

I managed to find my inner Dylan

But the words didn't come for free

Although writing fantastic verse

I sounded like him not me.

Then in the crow black night

There came a booming voice

It said I have to find my own path

The writer has no other choice.

I looked deep within and wrote

Page after page till it rang true

Write until you find your voice

Not your inner Dylan but your inner you.
