I wrote this when I was 15 and found it when searching through my old computer. I couldn't quite get over it, so I thought I'd post it.

Being somebody you’re not is one of the hardest jobs in the world. Remembering how this strange person should act, what they’d say and how they’d say it. I suppose it’s a bit like being an actor, acting the part, remembering your lines and certain mannerisms, to make them more realistic of course. But the exciting thing about acting is that you get to be someone else, then go back to being you. When you pretend to be someone else, you don’t always get to do the things you love, like be a slob on Saturdays or watch your favourite TV programme. You get to live a different life and ring the changes for a bit, but then you can slip back into your own, like a comfy pair of slippers after wearing high heels all night. When you’re pretending to be someone you’re not, you can’t have that comfort of letting go, even for a second. Your whole life, which to be honest isn’t even yours, becomes a performance, becomes a constant push to be perfect. But nobody’s perfect, least of all someone who is so uncomfortable in their own life, that they have to create one as someone else. Someone that they’re not.
