State Of Health

They say that they’re worried, that I’m not myself,

that there’s some concern about my state of health.

I should go see a doctor, not leave it too long --

I don’t need a professional to know what is wrong.

They pile on the pressure, don’t like to wait;

too high expectations are making me hate

the way that I’m failing, that I’m not up to scratch

and onto all my weaknesses they gleefully latch.

My faults, they are picked on, I’m made so aware,

despite blows to my confidence – they just couldn’t care

if I’m reduced to a snivelling wreck full of tears,

trapped in the corner, held hostage by fears.

No, I don’t need a doctor, I just need not to feel,

and resign myself to this existence so real.
