Rattle, rattle, rattle, rattle!

The sound of an old-fashioned push-mower.

Rattle, rattle!

When I was a lad, I heard it at night!

Rattle, rattle!

Who could be mowing at this time of night?

Rattle, rattle!

I tried to ignore it, the blankets I held up close!

Rattle, rattle.

Was it a baddie, an elf, or a ghost?

Rattle, rattle.

Mum didn’t believe me, she thought I was dreaming.

Rattle, rattle.

The mowing continued, even when it was raining.

Rattle, rattle.

Nobody would listen, despite my imploring.

Rattle, rattle.

I figured out later, it was just mum snoring!

Rattle, rattle.
