“Yesterday and Tomorrow”

 

 

 

I wake up with the same thoughts,

I fell asleep with,

Her.

It’s like a prison sentence,

A heavy weight that I’m made to bear,

Held down,

And unable to get out from under,

Pressing in on me,

From all sides.

I look for an escape,

Something to block,

The constant images of her.

Pictures that act as iron bars,

Keeping her locked inside my head.

I try and drown her out,

With whisky,

And lies to other women.

But at best,

That works for a night.

Then daylight inevitably arrives,

With those same,

Unrelenting feelings for her.

Only now I face them,

With less honor and self-confidence,

Then the night before.

Both having been robbed from me,

During those few fleeting hours of escape.

I crawl from my bed,

And start pushing those feelings,

Of longing and desire,

Up and out of my mind.

But no matter how deep I bury them,

Or how far I run from them.

Every morning,

The sun comes back around,

And staples them,

Right back across my heart.

It’s been almost a year,

And all my tomorrow’s,

Have been like every yesterday,

I wake up with the same thoughts,

I fell asleep with,
