Face To Thunder

In the distance there’s a rumble and the sky is turning black

and any form of shelter is something that I lack;

the storm clouds are approaching and lightning splits the sky,

it’s just appeared from nowhere and I have to wonder why.

The thunder’s getting louder now, the storm is really near;

the lightning simultaneous, I guess the storm is here.

The flashes all around me, the sizzles in the air,

I really should just hit the ground but somehow I don’t care.

The volume of the rumbles sets the ground itself to shake,

it’s feeling like a tremor in the wake of an earthquake.

Still I am just standing there, my eyes so firmly closed

as the water pours all over me, a soaking I suppose.

A snap, a crack, a burning smell makes its way to me --

the lightning striking with some force and burning dead a tree.

But the birds they now begin to sing as the storm it moves away

and I find myself once more alone in a field full of decay.
