I give myself away

Piece by piece

Small chunks of my spirit

Handed out to the uncaring.

I am an open book

A dog eared volume

The secret pages of my soul

Thumbed through by the indifferent.

I give myself away

Piece by piece

There is not enough to go round

I have nothing left.

I stop still, silent

Empty in the dark nothing

Soulless vacuum

Nothing.

But a flame dances

Somewhere deep inside

A whisper telling me to go on

Faint yet strong.

I breathe, listening

Perhaps my race is not over

I let life fill my lungs once more

And run on.
