1/13/17

I saw my sin

Splattered on the floor of the stage.

Like paint and blood

It dripped.

The poisonous wine;

I saw it that time.

And I’m quite certain

From behind the curtain,

I saw the devil peeking.

Perhaps it was supernatural suspicion,

But behind the audience,

I seen him there;

If only in my mind.

The phantom of the opera

Or something of the kind.

In the shadows hiding.

In the shadows creeping up.

I ran.

 I fled.

I almost gave up.

On stage I cried, “I have seen you before…”

The director said it wasn’t my line.

But I couldn’t get him out of my head;

Not this time.

He had made his way inside my house.

I wonder how he hid so well;

I tried to find him.

On stage, the voices whispered:

 “In the mirror, in the mirror.”

It might be true, I feared.

Once backstage I seen him there.

I’m afraid of what he’ll do.

I’m afraid they’ll blame it on me again;

The blood is on my shoes.

I’m the one leaving footprints.

In the darkness of my home I had signed it;

The contract

In blood.

At a table set for two,

I knocked the candle over

But even then,

The contract wouldn’t burn.

My house went up in flames

As I crossed the point of no return.

Amidst the flames I prayed,

In the name of wickedness

I ate the charcoal the flames had left;

I drank the wine.

I broke the bread.

Proverbs 4:14-17

 Do not enter the path of the wicked,
And do not walk in the way of evil.
Avoid it, do not travel on it;
Turn away from it and pass on.
For they do not sleep unless they have done evil;
And their sleep is taken away unless they make someone fall.
For they eat the bread of wickedness,
And drink the wine of violence.
