Inside A Shell

She’s pretty as a picture but she withdraws into her shell,

she doesn’t want anyone to know her life’s a living hell.

She pulls shut all the curtains and barricades the door,

doesn’t want to venture out from inside these walls no more.

So she sits down in the corner, holds her head within her hands,

doesn’t want to cope with all the conflicts and the plans;

forgetting all the furniture she’s heading for the floor,

fingers scratching floorboards so hard that they do score.

It’s really kind of silent and it’s starting to get dark,

all the critical based comments have surely hit their mark.

Is it really worth the effort just to pull herself back up

when she knows she’ll only land back in a life that is so tough?

So she stays sitting in isolation where hers is the only voice

but I wouldn’t really say that it was she that made the choice.

Her life conspired against her, and she never could fit in

society just shut her out and she just shut herself within

the confines of this tiny house, inside a yellow room

to wait to become a victim of some never-ending gloom.
