In the evening

She takes walks by the lakeside

Then she seats herself

Beneath the great-oak tree

She picks the tiny flowers

From the lawn

And thinks about her man

That went to sea.

The moon causes shadows

To move across her

Across her face

And along her glistening hair

The moonlight heightens

The features of her beauty

And I watch her

But she'll never know I'm there.

She longs for her sailor

And he still loves her

But he's broken now

And not the man he was.

Someday she'll grow lonely

And move on

And this sailor will stop watching

When she does.
