If you have ever gone through depression, understand the struggles and darkness that will go along with this poem. If you have ever been a spouse of someone who has dealt with depression, the helplessness described in this poem will relate to you. I hope this reaches someone to let them know that they cannot defeat the darkness of this world on their own...but there is someone who can.

I've shaken hands with Lonliness,

An involuntary notion...

His frequency forces me to accept him,

Heartache seconds the motion...

The woman I call my wife,

Has hidden from me behind these walls...

I stand outside those locked gates,

Ready to run to her beckon call...

I look through these bars,

Trying to recognize this stranger...

She locks herself in this cold, dark slammer,

Trying to harness in this unknown danger...

These prison bars are icy cold,

I grasp them in desperation...

Staring at her with dire remorse,

My mind spinning in preparation...

I subtly reach out to her,

Sticking my hands through the gate...

My voice quivering, "...Chandler..."

I feel her sorrow transform into hate...

She lifts her head to look at me,

My heart stops beating, my face goes pale...

I've never witnessed such hatred,

Her eyes bloodshot with the color of hell...

I back away from the cell slowly,

She squints her brow ready to attack...

Her fists clinched with bare, white knuckles,

Her heart turns frigid and black...

I cry out for the guard,

Maybe someone can help her calm down...

Finally, a man rushes to the scene,

As my wife falls to the ground...

The guard's facial hair throws me off,

He tries to unlock the cell...

However, she doesn't let him,

She desires to be locked inside this jail...

I can see sorrow in his eyes,

Tears flow down his cheek onto his beard...

Why does he care so much?

Her desire for darkness is what I feared...

The guard reluctantly puts away the key,

My curiosity is noticeable to him...

He looks at me with eyes full of compassion,

I couldn't recognize him with prison lights so dim...

His resemblence couldn't be ignored,

Where have I seen this man?

Why was she so rebellious against him?

He calmy grabs me by the hand...

I could tell he loved her,

I just couldn't figure out why...

But when I noticed the scars on his hands,

I couldn't stop the tears from flooding my eyes...

He embraces me with such a strong love,

We both glance back her in this stockade...

My heart continues to ache for her,

As she refuses to take his aid...

We both wait willingly,

For her to recognize she needs a savior...

Her unregenerate heart is lifeless,

Only he can alter her damaging behavior...

Her independence suffocates her,

How did she end up in this dark place...

It feels like yesterday we were in love,

Happy in one another's embrace...

But now I don't know what to do,

The guard doesn't leave her side...

Almost like he was waiting for her command,

So he can show her that she is the reason he died...

I know this man personally,

She refuses to open her heart to his...

I know he is the savior she needs,

But she doesn't know who he is...

Her deterioration might be what is needed,

In order for her to open her eyes...

She doesn't understand what freedom comes,

At the moment her old self dies...

He will be here for her until the end,

Watching her completely fall apart...

He wraps his arm around my shoulder,

Waiting to set free her Imprisoned Heart...
