The harshness of winter is deep inside.

Decorating my heart with frost and ice crystals.

To breathe deep I risk shattering.

I must choose a lifeless existance to survive.

I long for the warth that once caressed every corner of my being.

The transparent crystals protecting my heart tremble with the threat to melt at the thought.

Though the promise of passion's fire makes me yearn for life.

The battle to protect my icey chest has begun to wage in my head.

Some would say, "It's better to have love then lost, than to have never loved at all"...

Clearly the winters of life have proved for a more hopeful spring in their hearts.

To trust the hopes of Spring is to dive into the fires without hesitation.

I have learned to cherish the crystals just as once I cherished the fires.

But how those fires have incinerated all that I have loved.

Is it really better to embrace the flickering?

Or let Winter wrap you in her embrace?

At least she is constant. She doesn't play tricks like those beautiful flames.
