INT. AIRPLANE - DAY.

A big jet, in mid-flight. American passengers, dressed for winter weather. Two passengers on each side. Fabric seats, round windows, white walls, wide aisles, round windows showing late afternoon sky.

Towards the back of the plane, SKYLAR GLAZIER (30) sits and listens to 80's rock music that plays over his oversized black headphones. He wears black sunglasses, a sweater vest and slacks.

Towards the front of the plane, a STEWARDESS comes up the aisle with a drink cart. A gamine young woman in mink (MARIKO NGUYEN (24)) sticks her leg out in front of the cart.

The cart trips and Mariko cries out in - false - pain. The stewardess jumps and several heads turn.

STEWARDESS

Oh, I'm so sorry -

MARIKO

My foot - Oh, dear -

She rubs her foot. The stewardess puts her hand to her mouth.

STEWARDESS

Are you hurt?

MARIKO

I don't - ow -

STEWARDESS

I've got some aspirin - please don't report this, I -

MARIKO

Well...

She meets the frantic stewardess's eyes with a level - almost eerily calm gaze.

MARIKO

A complimentary drink...might ease the pain. Bit of that expensive sherry for the first class?

The stewardess stares at her. Mariko smiles.

STEWARDESS

O-of course, here.

She fumbles with the stuff on the cart, pours out a glass of sherry, and hands it to Mariko, who has continued rubbing her foot throughout this. When she gets the drink and touches it to her lips, she returns to her original position, the pain in her foot apparently forgotten.

STEWARDESS

Again - so sorry..

MARIKO

Apology accepted.

The stewardess hurries on. Mariko's seating partner, CHANDLER FAIRVALE (22) stares at her, a bit flummoxed. He's a very good-looking, well-groomed man - in fine physical shape, with healthy skin and teeth, but he wears a baggy plaid jacket and faded jeans. He speaks with a Midwestern accent that matches his clothes.

CHANDLER

Did you even bruise your foot?

MARIKO

Maybe.

CHANDLER

You must have really needed that drink.

MARIKO

I'm not accustomed to paying for them.

CHANDLER

That must be nice.

MARIKO

It most certainly is.

She looks him over. Her eyes move very quickly, without blinking. Her expression doesn't change; he chuckles nervously.

CHANDLER

I'm Chandler.

He extends a hand to her. She looks at his hand for a moment, then as if she's never done so before, extends her gloved hand to shake his.

MARIKO

Mariko Nguyen.

CHANDLER

Nguyen...you know, that name sounds familiar...

MARIKO

My father owns Nguyen Autos.

CHANDLER

That's right, the limo manufacturer. You're his daughter?

MARIKO

Youngest.

CHANDLER

Wow - you just never stop meeting celebrities in California.

MARIKO

Everyone you meet is a celebrity, knows a celebrity, saw some celebrity at their child's birthday party...

CHANDLER

I mean, this is - was - my first time in California.

MARIKO

Where are you from?

CHANDLER

South Dakota.

MARIKO

Let me guess.

(CLEARS THROAT)

"Just a small town boy, living in a lonely world, took a midnight train going anywhere..."

Chandler laughs with her.

MARIKO

Well, that is how you got here, isn't it?

CHANDLER

Well, more like a midnight bus.

Across the plane, Skylar and his seat mate both refuse drinks from the stewardess. Skylar has discarded his headphones and is reading a book in brail on his tray table.

The woman next to Skylar has such short hair and such a loose pantsuit that she looks like a man. This is ALEX SAGE (30). She looks across the plane at Mariko, shakes her head. She keeps her voice low, adding to the androgyny.

ALEX

Looking for attention, I'd imagine.

SKYLAR

Hmm?

ALEX

Miss trippy-boots over there.

She gestures at Mariko. Skylar shakes his head.

ALEX

Probably a youngest kid. Overlooked by the parents, needs to exaggerate every injury...textbook attention case.

Skylar hums a bit.

SKYLAR

I wasn't really listening.

He taps on the headphones. Alex nods.

ALEX

I see.

SKYLAR

Ever heard Tossio?

ALEX

Can't say I have.

SKYLAR

Voice of a poet.

The cabin starts to shake and rattle. Conversations falter, passengers look around in alarm. A man's voice fills the plane.

CAPTAIN (FILTER)

Ladies and gentleman, this is your captain speaking. We've hit some unexpected -

With a flash, Chandler, Mariko, Skylar and Alex are no longer on the plane.

EXT. SKY - DAY.

The four passengers fall through the cloud layer, the plane nowhere in sight.

All of them are screaming, flailing. The sky is rushing by them as they FALL, faster and faster, wind rushing in their ears, the ground rushing up from nowhere.

Mariko turns her head down in time to catch sight of some approaching trees -

BLACK.

EXT. FOREST OF ANDALHEIM CLEARING - LATE AFTERNOON.

A small clearing of trees lets the cloudy light shine through. The ground is grassy and wet. Everything here is damp and mossy. The trees surrounding them are so thick that no one can see more than a few feet into the forest.

Somehow, the four passengers all lie on their backs, unharmed. Mariko is the first one to open her eyes. She picks herself up slowly from the ground, looks around at the forest and then at her companions. Then back at the trees.

There's something strange about them. They don't look like normal trees. The bark is completely smooth, coated entirely in green, and the trees don't grow up, they extend out, piling on top of each other like thick hedge mazes.

The others sit up and look around, equally amazed. Skylar feels the ground.

From the forest comes a screech like nothing any of them have ever heard before. Something inhuman.

Then chilling silence.

SKYLAR

What's happened?

MARIKO

I don't know...

END TEASER.

ACT 1

EXT. ANDALHEIM VALLEY - LATE AFTERNOON.

Outside of the forest is a long green valley, overcast in white clouds that are creeping towards the forest. The forest stands like a black wall of trees on the edge of the valley, which like the trees seems a little off. Every surface is completely smooth, with even blades of grass, all the same length.

A long procession of black, iron clad horses - or rather, beings that resemble horses - trots through the valley. Their riders wear long black cloaks and black uniforms with high necks, and all of them wear their hair in long pigtails hanging down their shoulders like snakes.

The exception is the leader. ZORKAL ANDERS (25) is completely bald, and sports multiple scars all over his face - deep and vicious ones, across the nose, temple, cheeks, pierced holes in the lips from some vicious attack, a scar across the eye partially obscured by sunglasses so dark his eyes aren't visible. A man whose face was probably very nice, even angelic once, but could frighten a child these days.

A flash of light gets Zorkal's attention, and he pulls up short. In the distance, the four passengers' falling bodies are blips above the trees.

The procession halts behind him. His LIEUTENANT (32), who wears a black cap rather than sunglasses, rides to his side.

LIEUTENANT

Canchu?

ZORKAL

There - in the sky.

He points to where the passengers fell. The procession looks, but they're already out of sight.

LIEUTENANT

Canchu, what dost thou see?

ZORKAL

Head for the woods.

He turns the beast he rides and begins to trot towards the thickets of trees. The others do not follow. Zorkal realizes this and turns back to face them.

ZORKAL

What, art thou afraid?

The riders look around at each other. SONGO (57), a wormy little man with a heavy brow, long greasy pigtails and a shabby coat, shakes his head and smiles at Zorkal, exposing badly maintained teeth.

SONGO

Heading into a wild forest full of Milirus? How Andalheim of thou, Zorkal.

Zorkal's face twists with anger. He puts his hand to his sword, but the lieutenant holds him back, pulling his horse between the two riders.

ZORKAL

Thou wish to stay behind? Then go save thy own neck. But don't expect thy payment.

He turns away and trots towards the forest. The others now follow, albeit still reluctant. The lieutenant catches up to him again.

LIEUTENANT

What didst thou see, canchu?

ZORKAL

They are here. I saw them fall. Hurry up.

Up until now, he's always spoken with the commanding voice of a military leader. Now, talking with the lieutenant, a tremor of excitement is clearly audible.

EXT. ANDALHEIM FOREST - LATE AFTERNOON.

The four passengers are still picking themselves up, testing the ground. Mariko has gotten to her feet, dusted off her clothes, and is surveying the trees with the same intensity she surveyed Chandler with earlier. Alex is helping Skylar up, Chandler looks around like a bewildered kid.

ALEX

Is anyone hurt?

CHANDLER

I don't think so.

SKYLAR

Me neither.

MARIKO

Well, that makes no sense. Has anyone in history ever fallen out of an airplane -

ALEX

Is that what happened?

CHANDLER

It felt that way.

Mariko turns to look sharply at her, annoyed at being interrupted.

MARIKO

And survived?

SKYLAR

No. That's impossible.

CHANDLER

So what happened?

Silence. They look from one to the other.

CHANDLER

Maybe the plane crashed.

MARIKO

Where is it, then?

They glance at the rest of the forest. Complete silence, except for some twittering of birds.

ALEX

No plane. Not even smoke.

CHANDLER

Well -

He pushes himself back up to his feet.

CHANDLER

Whatever happened, the point is that we're stranded.

MARIKO

Does anyone have a cell phone?

They all reach instinctively to their pockets. Alex and Chandler both whip out sleek iPhones.

ALEX

Dammit, I've got no bars.

CHANDLER

Me neither.

Mariko shakes her head.

MARIKO

At least try dialing.

Alex and Chandler both look annoyed, but do so. Al puts the phone to her ear.

ALEX

It's not even ringing.

Chandler tests his.

CHANDLER

Me neither.

SKYLAR

Great. We crashed out of area.

CHANDLER

Did we even crash?

Mariko shakes her head. She turns to look at the trees again.

MARIKO

Look at them...

She walks across the clearing. The others' eyes follow her movement. She reaches one of the trees and starts running one white gloved finger down the moss.

CHANDLER

They don't look real...

ALEX

Maybe we landed in Narnia.

This gets a shaky laugh from the others. Except Mariko. As she traces her finger along the moss - or whatever the green is - the trail she pulled her finger along turns from moss into sap.

She pulls her finger back from the tree as if burned. Then turns around to face the others, who are all watching her. Expectant.

MARIKO

Well, if we can't call, we should start walking.

She heads toward the thicket, the others staring at her.

ALEX

Oh, right, walk into the mysterious forest.

SKYLAR

Miss, I don't think that's such a good idea.

Mariko pauses at the edge of the clearing, then turns her head slightly to face Skylar.

MARIKO

What do you want to do, stand here and hope we get rescued?

She takes off, leaving the others to follow, one by one. First Chandler, then Skylar. Finally Alex. As Skylar leaves, his pant leg catches on a branch and a small patch of fabric tears off. He keeps going.

EXT. ANDALHEIM FOREST - EVENING.

The forest on the inside looks more like a swamp than real trees. Thickets and tangles of roots, branches, vines and beds of leaves completely obscure any actual ground. Black, green and dark blue cover everything. No sign of brown.

The group of four walk close together, slowly picking their way through tangles of branches. Mariko - who else - is at the front. Alex and Chandler in the middle. Skylar is behind the others, having to feel his way across each branch.

Alex notices and stops walking.

ALEX

You need some help?

SKYLAR

It'd be silly to say no.

She takes his arm and pulls it over her shoulders. They hurry to catch up with Chandler and Mariko.

ALEX

Maybe the plane was hijacked. Someone could have pumped gas inside, put us out.

MARIKO

Perhaps.

SKYLAR

And then dumped the passengers - what if there are other passengers from the plane here?

CHANDLER

Naw - we'd have heard 'em.

SKYLAR

They could be unconscious. We should go back and look for them.

Mariko chuckles and comes to a halt. They stop as she turns to face them.

MARIKO

Stop kidding yourselves. There's nothing back there but trees and moss.

She proceeds on ahead. The others follow.

EXT. ANDALHEIM FOREST - EVENING.

From up above, a winged creature - not a bird, or quite an insect, or even a bat - skims above the black tops of the trees, makes a loud, high pitched CAW.

EXT. ANDALHEIM FOREST - EVENING.

Inside of the trees, down below, the quartet hears this screech. Even Mariko looks unnerved.

SKYLAR

I don't like this.

ALEX

Don't worry -

SKYLAR

I want to know what's happening - where are we, what's going on, where's the plane?

Mariko and Chandler, slightly ahead, come to a halt and turn back to watch as Alex tries to calm Skylar down.

ALEX

We're gonna find out, just as soon as we get out of the woods.

SKYLAR

What forest? We were flying from LA to South Dakota! The only forests between there are in Nebraska and they sure as hell don't smell like this!

CHANDLER

How do you know?

SKYLAR

I've been to Nebraska. Forests there are - they smell like pine trees? Pine and snow and soil. This - this smells like a swamp.

ALEX

That hijacking gas theory is sounding better by the minute.

MARIKO

Let's keep going. We'll rest when we find another clearing.

Alex wraps an arm around Skylar's shoulders and helps him start walking again. Chandler falls back with the two of them, with Mariko now far out in front.

ALEX

I take it she's leading?

CHANDLER

Guess so.

ALEX

Think she knows something about this?

CHANDLER

No idea.

Mariko, somehow managing to walk gracefully over the thickets of swamp, smirks as she listens. She can hear every word.

ALEX

You two friends? Siblings?

CHANDLER

No, we just sat together on the plane.

SKYLAR

Does she seem a little...odd to you?

CHANDLER

She's pretty rich. Her dad makes limos.

ALEX

Of course she is.

CHANDLER

What's your name?

ALEX

Alex. What's yours?

CHANDLER

Chandler.

SKYLAR

I am Skylar Hunt.

He says this name as if they should recognize it. Neither one does.

SKYLAR

I'm a painter.

MARIKO

And my name's Mariko Nguyen.

This takes the other three by surprise; she'd been far enough ahead, it didn't seem like she could hear them.

MARIKO

Now that we're all acquainted, I think I see a clearing ahead. We'll stop there.

They go on, now in silence.

EXT. ANDALHEIM CLEARING - DAY.

This clearing is a lot bigger and brighter than the other one. There are fallen branches and uneven leaves, but now the sky is growing dark. The screams are getting louder.

The four passengers enter the clearing. Skylar is shivering. Mariko bends down and starts examining the sticks. Alex helps Skylar over to a clear spot and leans him against a tree.

SKYLAR

Thanks, Al.

ALEX

No problem.

CHANDLER

I've gotta pee.

MARIKO

So go.

CHANDLER

Here?

ALEX

Dude, the trees aren't going to eat your junk.

Chandler looks at the forest. For a moment, a branch seems to move. He's really shivering.

CHANDLER

Just - keep an eye out, okay?

He heads into the trees, glancing over his shoulder. Mariko is now running her hands up and down the smooth branch.

Chandler makes his way into the thicket. Slowly, jumping at ever small sound from twigs or chirping bugs or rustling branches, he unzips.

Back in the clearing, Skylar puts his hands on the tree to get the feel for the thing. Alex watches him.

SKYLAR

(to the tree)

We're not scared of you. Don't worry about him.

Mariko and Alex exchange a look.

MARIKO

Are you talking to the tree?

SKYLAR

(to Mariko)

Trees have feelings too.

Dead silence from the two girls.

EXT. ANDALHEIM FOREST - DUSK.

Chandler starts to pee. In the distance, the sound of something thundering towards him starts up.

Chandler looks up. For a second, he can't move. Then he zips up and starts charging towards the clearing.

EXT. ANDALHEIM FOREST CLEARING - DUSK.

Alex has sat down and Skylar is still cuddling with the tree. Chandler comes running into the clearing, wide eyed and panicking.

ALEX

What is it?

CHANDLER

I don't know!

As he makes it to their end of the clearing, something comes storming into sight. This thing is called a Miliru. It stands about eight feet tall, has a tail that curls over the back, is covered in gleaming black scales, and has six legs. Its head is one long line of sharp teeth on a very long veiny neck, protruding from shoulders shaped like a turtle's shell. The miliru scuttles along the clearing, making a sound like an elephant stampede and making the high-pitched wail the passengers heard when they first arrived.

The thing is heading for Mariko, who stands there, holding the stick. She tries to run back but trips and falls on her ass, trying to push herself backwards as the Miliru bears down on her.

CHANDLER

Mariko!

She grasps the stick and as she does so, the thing begins to change shape, the same way the moss did before. The substance changes until the stick becomes solid metal, the point turns into a blade, and the stick becomes an iron sword.

Mariko doesn't even think; she plunges the sword into the Miliru's neck. Blue blood spurts out. The creature screeches again, this time in pain.

Alex, Chandler and Skylar huddle together as Mariko pulls back and strikes a second time, ramming the sword through the creature's throat again. This time she hits a nerve, because the Miliru stops screeching. Then it's knees buckle, and it hits the ground with a thud.

Mariko stands there, holding an iron sword that only two minutes ago was a stick. She and the sword are covered in blue blood. She gets to her feet, and the others watch her.

ALEX

What the hell?

CHANDLER

Mariko?

Skylar whips his head around.

SKYLAR

There's more of them!

More thundering footsteps. More screams. Yellow eyes pop up in the dark trees surrounding the group. Then they bear down. Milirus, dozens of them, swarming into the clearing, filling up all the open space.

The four converge towards the middle, scurrying and running away from the things bearing down on them.

ALEX

Got any more?

She looks at Mariko's sword; Mariko shakes her head.

The Milirus have surrounded them now. They're coming faster, hissing and shrieking, showing long pointed teeth, overwhelming the passengers.

A light emerges from within the forest. Blindingly bright. The creatures stop shrieking as the light throws the scene, which had been almost dark before, into a view almost like daytime.

The Milirus scamper, fleeing the light like inverted moths. KAA (58), a wizened fellow with a long white beard, enters the clearing, the light hovering above his outstretched hand, attached to nothing.

The last Miliru's tail disappears into the trees. Kaa approaches the group, and the light dims a bit to about the power of a flashlight.

KAA

What you doing out in woods at dark?

ALEX

How are you doing that?

She gestures at the light. Kaa looks at the light hovering in front of him, attached to nothing. He chuckles.

KAA

You not know Andalheim very well.

SKYLAR

Know what?

Kaa's amused face falls. He starts really looking at the four in front of him. They also take a real look at him. His head is shaved completely bald, he wears robes made of a hatched and woven fabric like nothing on earth, and wears a tattoo on his forehead in lettering that doesn't match any known language - odd marks and shapes at an angle.

KAA

Your clothes...those devices...

He sees the iPhones in Chandler and Alex's back pockets. The headphones on Skylar.

KAA

You - you New Voyagers.

He kneels before them and bows, still holding the light.

KAA

It is honor.

Mariko smiles at this gesture of respect. Using the sword as if it were a cane, she sticks the point into the ground and holds her head up high like a queen.

EXT. ANDALHEIM FOREST - NIGHT.

Deep in the thickets of trees, a few miles away, so dark that little is visible except by lights held by a few people in the same manner as Kaa, Zorkal's procession of horse-things pick their way across the roots.

Zorkal turns to hear a distant sound - the shriek of the Miliru Mariko killed. The Lieutenant and Songo exchange a glance.

LIEUTENANT

Art thou sure it is them?

ZORKAL

Yes. That was the New Voyagers. This time, we shall arrive first. They are close.

Shrieks of Milirus, coming closer, greet his words.

END OF ACT I.

ACT 2

EXT. ANDALHEIM FOREST - NIGHT.

Deep in the thickets of branches, lit by Kaa's growing sphere, the group of five make headway. Kaa knows the trees well, and the group follows his steps. Mariko walks in stride with him, now turning her examining eyes on him.

MARIKO

Why are we the "New Voyagers?"

KAA

You from technological realm.

CHANDLER

From what?

KAA

Never, in million suns, thought I have to explain.. Well, those - things in your back clothes holes...

He gestures at Alex and Chandler.

ALEX

Our pockets?

KAA

Whatever call them, they made of metal and electricity and wires, and let do things you couldn't do with just bodies and natural world.

MARIKO

Technology.

KAA

Right. You from technological realm. This the Magical realm. You use - what you call those things?

ALEX

Cell phones.

KAA

And what they do?

ALEX

If you want to talk to someone too far away to hear you.

KAA

Like talking mirrors.

SKYLAR

What are -

MARIKO

You use magic, instead of technology?

KAA

Yes. Much simpler.

CHANDLER

So that's how you're doing that?

He points at the hovering light. Kaa nods.

KAA

I illuminist. I make and control light. Like your...electricity. Most people have some power. Liquerers, Speakers, Shifters, Warriors - everyone has something they good at.

MARIKO

But if you need someone from here to perform magic - how did this turn into a sword?

KAA

You change that?

He pauses and turns to face Mariko as she holds the sword up for him to see.

MARIKO

This used to be a tree branch.

KAA

And it change when you touch?

MARIKO

Yes. I think so.

Kaa looks at her. A long moment. She doesn't blink.

KAA

You must be shifter.

MARIKO

I've never done anything like that before.

KAA

Of course not, in technological realm. No need for powers like that when have machines.

CHANDLER

What's a shifter?

KAA

Shifters change things, like structure of object. Stick used to be made of splinters and bark and shafts. But shifters can make materials to change to metal. And take on new shape, like sword.

He takes the sword from Mariko and examines it.

KAA

I never see shifter do so well on first try. This - was first time?

MARIKO

Yes. This is the first time I've ever done anything...interesting.

This gets some raised eyebrows from the rest of the group. Kaa resumes walking and the others follow.

MARIKO

Why the "new" voyagers?

ALEX

And how do you even know about technology? We've never heard of you.

KAA

You never hear of magic?

ALEX

Well, we've heard of it, but as a myth, or a legend -

SKYLAR

Not true. I've seen magic.

KAA

Really?

ALEX

Not on Planet Earth.

KAA

Is planet earth, just different...version of planet earth.

CHANDLER

This is making my head hurt.

MARIKO

You haven't answered me.

KAA

Yes. Well - this answer your question too -

Alex looks up.

KAA

About ten years back, two voyagers from technological realm - man and woman - show up in capital of Andalheim. Just fell from sky, then pop up without scratch.

CHANDLER

That's what happened to us.

KAA

Told everyone about technological realm. Weren't experts, didn't know how to make telephone or television, but they used them. The Prophet said four New Voyagers would arrive, one day in future. That you.

Four looks are exchanged - three, as Skylar, being helped along by Alex, doesn't make eye contact. Then Alex speaks up.

ALEX

None of us are exactly...tech experts, as far as I know.

KAA

The Prophet didn't say you would be. Just more Voyagers.

MARIKO

Did the first Voyagers get powers?

KAA

Yes, think so.

She looks a bit disappointed. Then shrugs it off.

MARIKO

Why are you out here?

KAA

Work here. I forest keeper.

MARIKO

Lonely job?

KAA

Very. Ah, here.

They come upon a large cave with wooden doors somehow attached to the entrance. The rocks are, like the trees and the grass, unnaturally smooth.

MARIKO

You live here?

KAA

Pretty much. Come inside, I got some food.

INT. KAA'S HOVEL - NIGHT.

He opens the doors and the light precedes him inside, lighting up the meager hovel. A pot over a fireplace, a woven straw bed and blanket, and a very tall mirror. A cabinet full of jars and small wrapped bowls and that's about it.

ALEX

Wow.

KAA

Well - sorry I no have more beds.

CHANDLER

No problem.

SKYLAR

I've had worse.

ALEX

Mariko?

MARIKO

What?

ALEX

If you're a...shifter, maybe you can make more beds.

Mariko's eyes light up. A challenge.

MARIKO

Sure - let me got some stuff, and -

KAA

Nothing in here to use. And I wouldn't go outside again, if I were you. Respectfully, Canchuna.

MARIKO

Canchuna?

KAA

Term of respect. Boy would be "Canchu."

He bustles around the oven, while the four passengers lean against the bed. Al looks at Mariko.

ALEX

So, what, do we believe this guy?

SKYLAR

Of course.

Alex rolls her eyes and turns to Chandler.

ALEX

Chandler, do you believe this guy?

CHANDLER

Sure, I guess. I mean - makes sense.

MARIKO

I agree.

ALEX

I'm not sure.

MARIKO

Well, while you decide if you're sure...

She gets up and walks over to the thick ground by the straw bed. And for the first time, she peels off the gloves. She has well manicured nails and clean hands. They don't stay that way for long as she starts rubbing them in the dirt.

In the paths made by her hands, the dirt begins to change shape. Fabric begins to emerge. Mariko smiles.

EXT. ANDALHEIM FOREST - NIGHT.

Black outside. Lights from a few hovering spheres. Thickets of roots and branches tangle all over the place. The trees up top completely block out the sky.

Zorkal's group have slowed to a crawl. While the leader still carries on at the same speed, the procession is barely moving.

Zorkal turns around to face them.

ZORKAL

Hurry thyself.

LIEUTENANT

We need to rest, canchu. The sun is down. The Milirus will attack at any minute. We shall need all our strength.

ZORKAL

Dost thou want Andalheim to find the New Voyagers first?

SONGO

They hast probably been eaten by the Milirus already if they're out this late without an illuminist.

ZORKAL

No. They art still out there.

SONGO

We shan't be able to find them if we're all eaten.

ZORKAL

Then keep moving. Milirus prefer things that keep still, they are easier to catch.

LIEUTENANT

We will not find them tonight. Just stop up. Let us get some water and rest.

Zorkal sighs. He runs a hand along the back of his horse-like mount's neck. Feels the exhaustion. Looks back at his men.

ZORKAL

Ten minutes.

They all breathe a sigh of relief. Everyone starts dismounting, unhitching water jugs to take a sip, patting their mounts in the same way Zorkal did. Even Zorkal sits down beside his mount.

Then the sound of thunderous feet approaching signals the arrival of the Milirus. Zorkal jumps to his feet.

ZORKAL

They art coming!

Everyone else is on their feet, bunching together in a group as the people holding spheres of light cause them to grow brighter.

INT. KAA'S HOVEL - NIGHT.

The light has grown warmer in color, as the five now sit in a circle on mats that Mariko has created from dirt. They hold bowls of purple soup. Mariko sits to Kaa's right, Alex next to her, Chandler by her and Skylar between Chandler and Kaa. Kaa leans against the rock wall of the hovel.

SKYLAR

Is there meat in this?

KAA

A little.

SKYLAR

I don't eat meat.

Chandler rolls his eyes.

CHANDLER

Oh, God...

SKYLAR

It's murder.

Chandler prepares a retort, but Mariko speaks up.

MARIKO

Kaa?

KAA

Yes, Canchuna?

MARIKO

Are shifters rare?

KAA

They more common in Eidenel than Andalheim, but yes, generally there not lot of them.

ALEX

What's Andalheim?

KAA

The provence we in now.

CHANDLER

And Ai-dun-el's another. ..Providence?

KAA

Eidenel the other provence. There only two.

SKYLAR

Where we're from, there's thousands of provences.

KAA

Well, there only ever two here. Andalheim in west and Eidenel in east. This forest along border.

Kaa stands up and shuffles over to his bed. From underneath it he pulls out a rolled up scroll and shuffles back to the group, where he unfurls the thing and spreads it before them, putting his bowl on one end to keep it open. The others lean in to see the map better.

KAA

Here. See?

He points to Andalheim, outlined in red. Eidenel is to the east and outlined in blue. The font on the map is the same as the font on Kaa's forehead.

SKYLAR

They're on the same continent?

KAA

Only one continent.

MARIKO

Like Pangeia

KAA

Don't know what that is. But there only one mass of land.

He sighs as he looks down at the trees.

KAA

Seems I be in forest whole life. Never seen Eidenel capital, or icy snows, or mountains.

Mariko has been looking over the map, examining the little cities and various landscapes.

ALEX

So where should we go? I mean, if we want to get home?

There's a moment of silence as the others look away. Kaa looks at Alex and shakes his head.

KAA

Canchu - or is canchuna?

ALEX

Neither.

KAA

No way home. First voyagers not get home. No Magical realm person ever find way to technological realm. I sorry.

Alex looks down, suddenly sad. She bites her lip as she tries not to cry. Chandler scooches forward and gingerly pats her shoulder.

CHANDLER

Hey, maybe...maybe this ain't so bad. I mean, look at all these places we can go see!

SKYLAR

What kind of places?

He has been tracing the edge of the map with his hand, getting a feel for it. Mariko smiles.

MARIKO

Where should we go, Canchu Kaa?

Kaa grins at this.

KAA

"Canchu Kaa". I never called that. You go to capital of Andalheim, maybe? Like first voyagers.

MARIKO

What about Eidenel? Are they bad?

KAA

They not friends with Andalheim.

MARIKO

Why?

SKYLAR

Are there lots of animals here?

CHANDLER

Can you go into space?

ALEX

Alright, enough!

The others turn to look at her again. She's stood up and is glaring at them all.

ALEX

What is wrong with you three? We're not staying here, we've got to get home.

Mariko looks down at her hands. Skylar fiddles with a strand of hair. Chandler hugs his knees.

KAA

Well, for now, you rest.

He slowly furls up the map. Mariko glances at the amateurish beds she made, piles of ratty blankets the same color as the dirt. Chandler, Skylar and Alex stack the bowls in the corner, one on top of the other.

EXT. ANDALHEIM FOREST - NIGHT.

In the clearing where Zorkal and his followers stopped, more Milirus than ever before swarm over them. In the dark, they are more frightening than ever, eyes gleaming by the light of the illuminists in the group.

Various fighters have pulled out swords and are fighting against them, stabbing and swiping. The Milirus only multiply by the moment, snarling teeth and scuttling feet stepping over each other in the frenzied search for meat.

There's a scream and one of the army falls. Zorkal watches as the Miliru wraps him in it's tail, and seizes the reins of his own horse. The Lieutenant, who has been using his sword to keep them at bay, looks up at him.

ZORKAL

Get the others into the light, I've got a plan.

The Lieutenant nods and makes a gesture at the illuminists, who expand the power of their light and gather the fighters in towards the middle of the clearing.

Zorkal then pulls the reins and the horselike mount gives a high-pitched growl. The Milirus turn their focus as Zorkal starts to run in one way, with the illuminated riders running another. One target without arms, vs dozens of targets with swords.

The Milirus make their pick and charge after Zorkal.

SONGO

What ist he doing?!

He watches Zorkal in genuine panic as the group pulls back, and starts forward after him. The lieutenant grabs his shoulder.

LIEUTENANT

He has a plan.

Songo doesn't seem convinced. He watches as the creatures stampede through the trees.

EXT. ANDALHEIM FOREST - NIGHT.

Zorkal is riding like the wind, with dozens of Miliru's following him. He has pulled out a map and is desperately perusing it by the bits of light that intrude from above.

He holds onto the reins with one hand and as the Milirus start to overtake him he shoves the map into his coat and draws out three dead mice.

ZORKAL

Here birdy.

He tosses one behind him, buying himself some time as the Milirus fight over the game.

Zorkal veers his mount to the left, gaining speed. The Milirus resume the chase.

Zorkal tosses the second mouse behind him, buying himself yet more time. He mutters under his breath as the mount makes it over yet more vines.

ZORKAL

Five paces, ten fold, over the bunyan tree..

He passes a rather thick trunk tree and grins. A Miliru swipes at the horse's tail and misses by an inch. Zorkal throws back the third mouse and the creatures are once again diverted.

At last Zorkal smiles a bit; he's found what he was looking for. He leans into the mount and gives it a firm kick.

The mount LEAPS -  Over a fast moving river, so black and thick that the Milirus don't see it and barrel towards him and into the rapids.

The creatures act as a pack, rather than as individuals. They all follow the lead of the first few and swarm into the rapids.

The swarm is carried away. Zorkal and his mount stand on the opposite bank, out of breath but alive.

Zorkal strokes the mount's neck, then dismounts.

ZORKAL

Well done.

He dismounts, and the creature nests its head in his shoulder.

EXT. ANDALHEIM CLEARING - NIGHT.

The remaining riders still wait, crowded together beneath the light. Songo waits at the edge of the group.

Zorkal and his mount emerge from the trees. Songo breathes a sigh of relief, then relaxes into his usual sneer.

SONGO

Well, took you long enough.

LIEUTENANT

Are the Milirus -

ZORKAL

They're gone. Washed them up the Thormin River.

He looks around the group, then sighs.

ZORKAL

The man they took...

The others all look away. Silence.

LIEUTENANT

Thank you for saving us, sir.

Zorkal doesn't respond for a moment, then pushes himself back into the saddle.

ZORKAL

It's been ten minutes. Shall we continue?

The others nod. They all start mounting their horses.

INT. KAA'S HOVEL - NIGHT.

Chandler, Skylar and Alex are all asleep in Mariko's makeshift beds - the same color as the dirt and made of lumpy blankets.

Mariko lies on her back. She's wide awake.

Kaa finishes washing the bowls and shuffles toward his bed.

MARIKO

(softly)

Are you going to tell Andalheim we're here?

Kaa starts when she speaks and looks down at her. Her bed is right next to his, and as he sits down she turns on her side so they can look at each other.

KAA

Suppose so.

MARIKO

Does that mirror call them?

Kaa looks over at the mirror.

KAA

Yes.

MARIKO

Which one is better, Andalheim or Eidenel?

Kaa grins; he's heard this question before.

KAA

They fight over that.

MARIKO

Eidenel wouldn't like it if Andalheim got us, would they?

KAA

No. Andalheim got first voyagers.

MARIKO

You must be so lonely here. No one but milirus and forest creatures. We're the first people who've showed up at your home in a while, aren't we?

KAA

First living ones.

Mariko sits up, looking Kaa straight in the eyes. Self-conscious, he tries to avoid her gaze.

MARIKO

Could you afford a better place with more money?

KAA

Suppose I could.

MARIKO

They'll pay a lot for us.

KAA

Think so?

He sits up a bit, now more excited. Mariko nods.

MARIKO

You know, back in the Technological realm, there are these things called auctions. People line up to bid on something they want. Sometimes they end up paying thousands for something only worth ten.

KAA

There auctions here too.

MARIKO

I'd imagine Andalheim would pay more if Eidenel tried outbidding them.

Kaa looks at her. She's smiling oh-so-innocently.

KAA

They would.

MARIKO

Maybe you should call them both.

Kaa glances over at the sleeping figures. His eyes linger on Alex.

KAA

Would the others like that?

MARIKO

It's only fair, Kaa.

She scoots closer to him so that her eyes catch the light that's coming from the window.

MARIKO

You found us. We have to go to one or the other. Why shouldn't you make some money? You get your nicer home, and we go with the better country.

KAA

Yes. I like. But them...would they like?

MARIKO

What they don't know won't hurt them.

She lowers her voice even more than before.

KAA

I suppose...yes, I think I will. We closer to Andalheim, so maybe they get here first anyway.

MARIKO

Patriotism won't buy you a new home.

Kaa takes a deep breath and nods. He turns to the mirror at the back of the room.

KAA

I call Eidenel first, you think?

MARIKO

It's only fair. They deserve the head start.

Kaa leans towards the mirror and takes a deep breath.

KAA

Call King Jongo of Eidenel.

Mariko watches with a smile on her lips, leaning back in bed while the mirror lights up with a soft glow.

End of Act II.

ACT 3

INT. ANDALHEIM CASTLE - MORNING.

A massive stone throne room. Decked out in medieval style, with a row of small circular windows, a red velvet carpet along the floor rolling up to an upraised dais. At one side of the room is a massive mirror which reflects the entire courtroom.

Warriors in shining metal armor that conforms to their bodies line the walls, carrying spears and swords. Their heads are exposed; all of them are either shaven bald or if female have their hair cut short.

HARA (50), a woman with steel grey hair and a posture so straight her head seems to be held up by a rope from the ceiling, walks alongside the ranks. She wears armor like the rest, only with a higher collar and more decorative gauntlets. There is no doubt that she is in charge.

One SOLDIER stands a little different than the others; his slumped posture connotes weakness. He raises one hand to scratch an itch.

Hara turns on him and strides until she stands right before him.

HARA

Keep hands at sides. Soldiers of Andalheim stand straight.

SOLDIER

Yes Canchuna!

HARA

Yes, General Hara.

SOLDIER

Yes, General Hara!

HARA

Itch will attend to itself.

She turns away from the soldier as the mirror lights up. An incoming contact. Hara strides forward to face the mirror.

A cool female voice issues from nowhere.

FEMALE VOICE (V.O.)

Contact for Queen Shayra.

HARA

Queen is asleep. Who disturbs her?

FEMALE VOICE (V.O.)

A forest keeper named Kaa.

HARA

More requests for money, I sure. I deal with this contact. Connect.

The screen flashes twice and reveals Kaa standing in his hovel.

HARA

What you want, For -

Kaa holds up Chandler's cell phone. Hara stops speaking. Kaa points behind him to the sleeping four. Mariko has her eyes closed.

Kaa puts his finger to his lips and flips open the phone. He pushes a button on it and the screen changes; the soldiers behind Hara jump and exchange glances.

HARA

(softer)

The New Voyagers.

Kaa nods. He pushes another button, pleased with the reaction it gets from the soldiers. Hara turns to look at the soldiers and they resume their positions.

HARA

Coordinates.

Kaa holds up another map, this one similar to Zorkal's map of the forest. He holds it as close to the mirror as possible and points to the longitude and latitude lines that connect at the X making his hovel. Hara follows the gestures, and nods as Kaa pulls the map back.

HARA

We be there in two hours. Have Voyagers ready.

Kaa holds out one hand and rubs his finger and thumb together. Hara sighs.

HARA

We have payment.

Kaa nods. He places his hand on the edge of the mirror. The contact ends and the mirror in the castle returns to showing the reflection.

Hara turns back to her soldiers, now at full volume.

HARA

You!

She points at a tall SERGEANT. He springs to an arm salute over his shoulder.

HARA

Wake queen. Tell her news.

The Sergeant nods and heads off. Hara turns to the rest of the soldiers.

HARA

Prepare fastest transports we have. Get maps of forest.

She strides down the line and the soldiers follow her.

HARA

And tell first Voyagers. They want to hear.

The soldiers perform the same over-the-shoulder salute as they follow her out the archway.

EXT. KAA'S HOVEL - MORNING.

The sun has come up. The forest glows with a new light as the clouds have pulled away.

INT. KAA'S HOVEL - MORNING.

Chandler stretches his arms, turning over to get a look at the room. Everyone else is still asleep.

Except for Skylar. His bed is empty.

Chandler sits up fast and hits his head on the roof.

CHANDLER

Ow -

As he rubs his head, the others all sit up.

KAA

You all right?

MARIKO

Where is Skylar?

ALEX

Probably went outside to apologize to the trees. Moron.

Chandler and Mariko chuckle a bit. Then they hear a reptilian shriek from outside. Everyone jumps up, Alex's face turning pale.

MARIKO

What was -

KAA

Dragon.

They all exchange panicked glances. Then run for the door, Mariko grabbing her sword.

EXT. KAA'S HOVEL - MORNING.

Skylar stands on the grassy knoll, perfectly calm. The other four rush out of the hovel in a panic and stare at something in front of Skylar.

ALEX

Oh my God.

In front of Skylar stands a massive dragon. Red and yellow scales cover the whole thing, with a slick snake's belly and a wingspan that stretches further than the clearing allows it to unfurl. The thing's tale is curled around its paws and it stands with it's front claws together, like a dog. The head on the long neck is extended, and smoke issues from it's nostrils. It has no back legs.

The others stand at the door. Even Mariko looks afraid, and she's carrying a sword. Skylar takes a few steps forward.

CHANDLER

Skylar, there's a -

SKYLAR

A creature of the forest? I know.

ALEX

Skylar, take steps backwards. Please.

Skylar just looks up at the dragon with a benign smile.

SKYLAR

You're tired, I see. Probably been running all night. Were there bad people trying to hurt you? I think there were.

The Dragon bends it's neck down to get a better look at - or smell of - Skylar. Chandler and Alex pull back.

CHANDLER

Dude, run -

MARIKO

Take a few steps back, at least.

ALEX

Oh, don't talk to it...

Skylar now extends a hand to the dragon's nose.

SKYLAR

You're not an it. I think you're a him, is that right? May I?

The dragon doesn't make a sound or move it's head, but somehow Skylar seems to hear some cue; he stretches out his hand.

The others draw in their breath, frightened. Alex grabs Mariko's arm.

Skylar pats the dragon's nose. It exhales, making a rather docile sound and closing its eyes.

SKYLAR

You like being pet that way, don't you?

The others exhale, relieved. Mariko lowers her sword.

KAA

A whisperer and a shifter? You pick up powers fast.

SKYLAR

Do you have a name, canchu?

ALEX

Now he's talking like you..

She shakes her head and turns back inside. Chandler and Mariko exchange a glance and approach Skylar. The dragon turns to look at them and they stop, Mariko dropping her sword.

SKYLAR

Don't worry. They're friends.

The Dragon seems to understand. The others start walking again, stopping behind Skylar.

CHANDLER

Well I'll be.

MARIKO

Kaa, do whisperers speak to all animals?

KAA

As a rule, yes.

CHANDLER

How do you know what it - he's - saying?

SKYLAR

Animals have auras. I feel auras better than most.

Mariko raises an eyebrow, but says nothing.

INT. KAA'S HOVEL - MORNING.

Alex sits down on her blankets and puts her head in her hands. She looks around the place. Outside Chandler can be heard laughing, Skylar murmuring and Mariko asking questions; generally, the sounds of merriment.

Alex pulls out her cell phone and turns it on. The power is half empty and there are still no bars.

She tries to open up the internet by pressing the icon. Nothing happens. She opens her contacts list and scrolls down the rather short list - OFFICE, MOM, DAD, JIM, CLIENTS. She clicks on DAD and puts the phone to her ear.

Nothing. Not even a ring.

Frustrated, Alex tosses the phone down.

EXT. KAA'S HOVEL - MORNING.

Skylar is still petting the dragon and whispering to it. Chandler and Mariko are examining the wings.

CHANDLER

I've never seen wings this big on anything!

MARIKO

I saw a picture of a condor once, not even close.

CHANDLER

Maybe we could ride him to Andalheim - or Eidenel, I don't know. Wherever we're goin'.

Kaa catches this statement and turns pale. Mariko glances at him and then back at Chandler.

MARIKO

I don't know. That would be risky. And I don't think Skylar would like us using his new friend for a mount.

SKYLAR

You're right, I wouldn't.

He pets the dragon's scales.

SKYLAR

And his name is Meef.

KAA

Meef?

He starts laughing, but stops when Skylar turns around, eyebrows knit in a glare in his direction.

SKYLAR

That's his soul name.

KAA

Sorry. It just - "Meef" means "stupid" in old Endelish.

Chandler and Mariko try to resist laughing as Skylar glowers.

CHANDLER

Sorry, sorry. It's a very sweet name.

MARIKO

Exactly. Like "bimbo".

Chandler can't stop and bursts out laughing. Skylar is about to retort, but the Dragon seems to like the laughter.

MARIKO

I think it likes laughter.

Kaa relaxes and heads back towards the hovel.

EXT. ANDALHEIM FOREST CLEARING - MORNING.

Zorkal looks around the clearing - the same one the voyagers landed in before. The army watches him.

He kneels down and pulls up a tree branch. Some fabric from Skylar's jeans has caught on it.

ZORKAL

This was not woven by magic. We are close.

He straightens up as Songo and the Lieutenant watch him.

ZORKAL

The map shows a forest keeper not far from here. He must have found them.

SONGO

So? Let's go.

Zorkal nods. Just then, a mirror lights up in his coat pocket.

He pulls the mirror out and sees CONTACT: King Jongo.

ZORKAL

It is the King.

He taps the mirror. We only see the mirror from behind; the king's voice comes.

KING JONGO

The New Voyagers have been found.

ZORKAL

I know. By a forest keeper in the Andalheim woods.

KING JONGO

Thou knowest, nobody likes when thou dost that.

ZORKAL

We will get them.

KING JONGO

Hurry. I am sure he hast alerted your mother already.

Zorkal flinches at this. Songo chuckles.

ZORKAL

She has probably sent General Hara. We'd best hurry.

The mirror's light blinks off. Zorkal pulls on the horse's reins and starts trotting. The others follow, speeding up the pace.

EXT. KAA'S HOVEL - MORNING.

The group sit on the ground, eating some baked goods Kaa provided. Alex leans against the hovel, Skylar sits with Meef, and Chandler and Mariko sit together. Kaa sits opposite them, watching the sky.

KAA

Sun is high.

ALEX

No, really?

Mariko and Chandler laugh, although Skylar doesn't. Kaa manages a smile. Mariko notices his fidgeting hands.

MARIKO

So we know Skylar loves animals, my family is rich and Chandler's from a farm. What about you, Al?

ALEX

There's not much to say about me.

CHANDLER

Oh, come on.

ALEX

Why are we sitting around again?

More uncomfortable silence. Then Skylar looks up.

SKYLAR

I hear something...

Everyone turns around to face him. He's gotten to his feet and now they can hear it to. Approaching footfalls, heavier than humans.

CHANDLER

Kaa? What is that?

KAA

Probably just...travelers.

He and Mariko exchange a glance. She nods and smiles at him. Then something catches her gaze.

Zorkal enters the clearing, followed by Songo and the Lieutenant. The come in at the opposite end of Meef and the Voyagers.

The group all stand up. Skylar touches Meef's neck, reassuring. Alex watches the new arrivals with caution. Chandler stares at Zorkal's mutilated face and Songo's bad hygiene and starts shaking, afraid. Mariko simply gazes at Zorkal, apparently enthralled. For one her eyes don't move over his every surface with creepy speed.

Kaa inhales, twisting one corner of his robe as Zorkal surveys the group. Mariko takes the initiative, glancing at Kaa as she speaks.

MARIKO

Greetings. We...travelers. Who you?

ZORKAL

In the name of King Jongo the second, I, Zorkal Anders, claim thee -

MARIKO

You speak so well..

She stares at Zorkal in wonder. Zorkal continues.

ZORKAL

I claim thee in the name of -

HARA

Andalheim.

Everyone turns. A carriage without wheels hovers at the other end of the clearing, a massive and expensive looking metal concoction, with others joining it. Hara stands at the forefront, wielding her spear.

Mariko grins while the others exchanged worried looks.

END OF ACT III.

ACT 4

EXT. KAA'S HOVEL - MORNING.

The two armies face each other. The voyagers stand in the middle.

ZORKAL

The forces of Eidenel arrived first. The New Voyagers belong to us.

HARA

We spoke first.

SONGO

Eidenel beat you, just admit it you old bag.

HARA

Our forest keeper found Voyagers. They ours.

ZORKAL

What will Queen Shayra do with them? The same as she has done with the first - give them a home and ask them nothing about technology.

HARA

Your mother ask me to spare you if we met. But my soldiers not bound by that promise, Zorkal. We strike you down if you take what is ours.

KAA

Actually, they mine.

He stands in the middle, looking at both armies.

KAA

If you want them, you'll have to pay.

Chandler gapes at him. Alex swallows, Skylar pulls back. Mariko stands watching the scene, enjoying the fruits of her words.

HARA

We have payment, Forest Keeper.

ZORKAL

Eidenel hath more jewels than you could conceive of, Canchu.

HARA

We have money now.

She draws out a rough cloth bag full of coins and tosses it at Kaa. Kaa walks forward slowly and opens the bag's top with his foot, examines the money.

KAA

I think I deserve more than this.

ZORKAL

Eidenel will pay thou twice Andalheim's paltry sum.

HARA

That is payment. You take, you leave, it no matter. Either way, we take Voyagers.

She draws her sword.

HARA

Stand aside.

Zorkal draws his own sword.

ZORKAL

We do not need to bargain with thee either.

KAA

Wait -

Hara hoists her sword up in a battle cry. Mariko manages to get out of the way and join the other Voyagers by Meef, who is pulling back, snarling, while Kaa is shoved out of the way and into his hovel.

The two armies clash, the soldiers of Andalheim pouring out of the hovering carriages. Zorkal's soldiers stay on their mounts as steel and iron clash.

Skylar holds Meef back as the dragon attempts to flee. Alex grabs Mariko's arm and pulls her back from the fighting.

Zorkal meets Hara's sword. She's much stronger than he, but he's on horseback and has the upper ground. So for the moment, they're evenly matched.

Songo parts from the group of Eidenel soldiers and makes his way over to Kaa, who is cowering by his hovel, holding the sack of money.

SONGO

Greedy little fellow, aren't you?

Kaa gives a whimper. Songo pulls out his knife.

SONGO

I think I'll take that.

He stabs Kaa in the chest, the force of the stab pushing Kaa against the wall of the hovel. Through the warriors, the New Voyagers see this act.

Alex stares, disbelieving, Skylar jumps as the stab happens as if feeling the life go, and Chandler cries out in shock. Mariko shows no expression. Skylar looks up at the dragon for a moment.

SKYLAR

Get on Meef!

He speaks just loud enough for the New Voyagers to hear. Nearby, a soldier falls to a stab wound.

Chandler obeys, scrambling up the dragon's side. Alex follows him; Mariko realizes what they're doing.

MARIKO

Wait -

ALEX

Come on!

Reluctantly, she follows suit. Skylar is last, pulling himself up onto the dragon's neck. Meef unfurls his wingspan, pushing back a few soldiers as the wings spread the whole length of the clearing. Most of the two armies don't notice, as they're too busy fighting.

Meef begins to flap the wings, pushing himself upwards.

EXT. ABOVE ANDALHEIM FOREST - MORNING.

Meef rises above the trees, with the sounds of war in the background. The flapping from his wings blows against the trees, which blow away in response.

The four voyagers hold on for dear life.

EXT. ANDALHEIM FOREST - MORNING.

The blades continue to clash. Zorkal looks up and sees the dragon leaving.

ZORKAL

Fall back!

His procession begins to retreat, pulling away from the Andalheim army.

Hara points to the sky with her spear.

HARA

Follow them!

Zorkal glances over at the rather large Andalheim army. The Lieutenant meets his gaze.

ZORKAL

We could leave a few men behind, keep her busy...

LIEUTENANT

Is that your order?

Zorkal looks over at the group. Exhausted, bruised and battered. In no condition to fight.

ZORKAL

Let's follow them.

They head for the trees. The Andalheim army follows. Hara glances at her LIEUTENANT, a tall burly man twice the height of Zorkal.

HARA

Go on. I must report to the queen.

She trots away.  Bodies lie all over the clearing.

EXT. SKY ABOVE ANDALHEIM FOREST - DAY.

Meef soars over the trees, as the sun rises over the horizon. Now that the flight has evened out, the four can catch their breath.

Skylar strokes Meef's neck.

SKYLAR

Well done.

CHANDLER

Where do we go?

MARIKO

No idea.

She sits at the end, watching over the trees at the clearing, which is fading out of view as they fly further and further away. There is still some distant noise of fighting.

Alex follows Mariko's gaze.

ALEX

I guess I was wrong about Kaa.

MARIKO

Andalheim or Eidenel. I guess we'll never know.

CHANDLER

Let's just get away from the trees.

The others nod. They fly off toward the horizon, north by northwest.

EXT. KAA'S HOVEL - DAY.

Hara stands over the dying Kaa. He's choking on blood. She shakes her head.

HARA

An insignificant little forest keeper not just decide to betray his queen on his own. Who?

KAA

Ny-ny-

HARA

What?

KAA

Her name...Nguyen.

Hara pauses.

INT. ANDALHEIM CASTLE COURTROOM - DAY.

The room has only half the soldiers there before; the light streams in through the windows now, illuminating the carpet.

AMOK (20s), a bald, muscular man with a symbol on his head and royal silken robes, kneels on the carpet before a small staircase, hands crossed before her forehead in a gesture of respect.

AMOK

Hara reports. The Voyagers were lost.

QUEEN SHAYRA of Andalheim (60), a small, elderly woman with white hair and glittering robes, shakes her head. She speaks in soft and gentle tones.

QUEEN SHAYRA

I so sorry to hear. Do you think they be safe in the forest?

AMOK

She sent army after them. But...

QUEEN SHAYRA

Yes?

HARA

One of them is called "Nguyen". Do you think that, perhaps...

The Queen's voice becomes sterner. She straightens up, alive with attention.

QUEEN SHAYRA

You join Hara. Find them.

Amok bows his head and lowers his eyes.

QUEEN SHAYRA

And if you meet brother Zorkal -

Amok raises his eyes.

QUEEN SHAYRA

Don't let him get Voyagers.

Amok nods.
