Tina carefully applied the last bit of mascara. She brushed her short hair behind one ear and hopped down the stairs. "Today is the day!" she announced proudly to the people sitting at the breakfast table. "That's what you said yesterday." Joe said, stuffing his mouth with toast. "And that's what I'll say tomorrow" Tina replied. "Because I believe in it." "Tina, just shut up, okay?" Troy said angrily, barely missing the bottle in front of him as he slammed his fist on the table. "Damien is not coming back for you! You know that after your mother's sickness he just left you. He left ... us. He's not coming back." Tina looked from one member of her adoptive family to the other. The little woman who was now her mother, the angry man who was now her father, the angsty teen Joe and the little brother Kyle. Tina stared at them hard, then ran out the door. She chased past the town to the stony beaches on the other side. She kicked off her sandals and faced the sea in her mother's red dress. She walked towards the blue waves with her father's watch outstretched.

"You will come back."
