Sandpaper

Rough on the surface but as thin as paper. Sandpaper creates that mysterious feeling upon touching that no one really knows about. It’s not that mysterious though, cause we can identify sandpaper by its rigid, scratchy texture that is caused by the layering of the molecules on the sheet but what’s so interesting about sandpaper, is that sandpaper tends to become some sort of deep, meaningful word that you’d find in those shitty Pinterest quotes that all mean the same fucking thing.

They’re all basically referring to the fact that life is tough, but can be as soft as avocado butter once you get that big pit out that’s right in the center. These pretentious shit metaphors are all part of this brand in modern society. You all know what I’m referring to here, even though this is kind of contradictory right here. I’m going to start explaining my observant critique and complaints about how the youth of today’s world is so in the wrong path looking for their ultimate destiny in finding their own spirit, but this brand of hipster-wannabe teenagers who drink their coffee black because it makes them feel like they now belong to the ‘’adult’’ group of teens, while listening to the edgiest music that exists to this day even though it was probably written under the influence of some hardcore drug in a college dorm by a depressed student who decided to express their self-centered, desperate, pathetic feelings by shoving them down everyone’s throats, is a category that I am now partially part of. The youngsters, and that again includes me, are fairly easy with giving their well-structured opinions about, well about everything to be honest. The typical occurrence is that they disagree with everything the government has to say about education, they are so annoyed with the elderly in traffic, they find the biggest bullshit somewhat relatable and lastly, everyone thinks that they are different than everyone else, but if everyone thinks that they are different, no one is different because they all think the same way. Yes, prepare yourself to have an enormous attack of brain farts.

But back to the issue I’m having to deal with, the people around me. These type of teens aren’t necessarily the worst kind of teens, but like all the teens, they’re protesting against something. Not all teens are protesting against something, but every teen now has earned the right to disagree with anything political, which isn’t something that should be taken away from them, but the people who have absolutely no idea what they’re talking about, shouldn’t earn the spotlight for being a political-interested young adult who is the special snowflake in their class because the others don’t care about everything that goes on in their country. Those type of teens should just go back to smoking marijuana during their partying and dancing to the music that is now considered ‘’good’’. Again, disclaimer. I’m not generalizing every music that is produced to this day, because not everything is horse shit, but I think we can all agree that some songs are put out there, that could be considered as songs that shouldn’t have been.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and so am I. But when something is so agreeable, the majority can all say together that music has seen its dark times. Everyone has their own musical preferences and tastes. Mine again fall into the ‘’I’m so special and unique’’-teen category, cause I don’t like listening to most pop music. If people were to ask me, what my favorite music is, they were most likely to receive an answer containing the terms alternative, and indie which are, in my opinion, the more versatile genres in the music business. The reason that I’m fall into the brand of annoying little brats who think that they are the only essential human race, is because this genre isn’t really the most popular amongst people of my age. Most kids in my class for example, will listen to house-music, and sometimes I can agree with them about how the melody is really nice to listen to, but other times they will be going hard as a motherfucker to the immense long build ups, and then the most boring, unoriginal ‘’drops’’, the major part of a EDM song where people are supposed to dance the hardest to. I can be very judgmental about these parts, hence the emphasis, because they just sound like trash was imported into some sort of producing program and the DJ decided to press the same note multiple times on delayed parts in a bar, then repeating this for about 16 bars while slowly adding some progression to the second verse. This occurs in a lot of songs, specifically in this genre. Although the electronic music genre is one of the widest, people who aren’t familiar with it, can objectify it as the same type of music. That is why everyone has different musical tastes and we never should, and will agree on what is the ‘’best’’ music out there. Of course there are some songs that everyone can see as masterpieces, such as Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody, or Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin, but a specific genre can never be identified as the best.
