February 12, 2094, was the day the world ended. The sun had spiraled into Jupiter after the planet had gone off of its planned orbit. The other planets had been rocketed out into space. Now, fourteen years later, the significant amount of people that had survived the destruction were studying the phenomenon that was their new sun, Alpha Centauri, the closest star. All of the children had heard stories of the flash in the sky, and some had even seen it. But one thing had been made clear to them- the universe was not stable. They knew it was possible Alpha Centauri could crash or explode as well, with fewer survivors. They knew Mars, which had been swept along with Earth, must be colonized so that if Earth was destroyed some of the human race would survive. They knew the end of their planet would be soon, as Alpha Centauri seemed to be further away than the sun ever was, providing little heat. All in all, the next generation had it pretty hard. But they were smart, and they knew the stakes. Maybe all it took for humans to step up was the threat of extinction. It seemed to motivate most people.
