The clash of metal on metal, the sound of hundreds of spectators watching and cheering, it was magnificent and overpowering. I started sweating profusely, growing more and more nervous as I watched the scene unfold in the arena. My brother, Anicetus, with his sword and shield, and his opponent, with nothing but a small dagger in his left hand. They were circling each other, each sizing the other up and waiting for the first move to be made. I knew that Anicetus had the advantage of both reach and defense, but for some reason, this stranger’s calm, relaxed attitude was making me nervous. I was so focused on the stranger, I hardly noticed when Anicetus grew impatient and lunged at his opponent. He never was patient, and his temper tended to flare as well. The stranger, however, took the attack in stride, and simply spun out of the way. Anicetus looked at him, and quickly lowered himself into a defensive stance expecting a counter attack. I looked back at the stranger, and saw he had changed his dagger he originally had for a longer, slightly curved blade, almost 6 units long. I had no clue how he had changed his weapon so fast, nor where he had kept it, but it seemed Anicetus had learned just how dangerous his opponent was. I realized I had focused on my brother again, and switched to the area around them, so I could see both. I grew more tense as I saw Anicetus start to go for an overhead strike, making it obvious what he was about to do. I had seen him do this tactic a few times, and his usual opponents had always gone for the expected defense. However, this stranger hadn’t adopted the same idea, and instead smirked as he raised his knife. Anicetus started his swing, only to turn the blade, and turn it into a reverse side swipe, aiming for his opponents left leg. I had stopped sweating at this point, expecting Anicetus to have a swift victory.
