Dive In

There was no longer any fear in her. The past held no iron grip on her soul, as it had for so many years. The future was before her and she was ready to dive in.

Icy droplets of water covered her bare legs, an experience, which before, had always sent her running for dry land, but not this time. He was waiting for her and she would go to him. “Who is this mystery man?” her friends asked.

“You wouldn’t believe me if I told you,” she answered. She could hardly believe it herself.

Tiptoeing toward the water she felt a deep conviction. No, I must show my devotion. I’ll dive right in. And so, she did. She couldn’t swim and the old fear came over her as she beat against the weight of the salty sea, threatening to pull her down to a watery grave.

You fool! What a fool you’ve been! She cursed herself as her lungs filled and her dying mind clouded.

“Open your eyes,” said a voice seeming to come from inside her own head. She struggled to lift her eyelids, as heavy as boulders they felt. But when vision was restored, there he was.
