The End of the Cold Spell

The crispy white snow
outside our house
came to cover our
village in beauty.
Making the contours
of our world rounder,
softer, better.
Turning every spot into
a place for children, of all ages,
to frolic around in, and get
that rosy glow of laughter
in the frosty air on their faces.

That was then.

Now, a grey fog
and the occasional drizzle
turned the immaculate blanket
into an equally grey swamp of sludge.
Soaking the entire village,
causing the children to put away
their sledges, and give up
hope for another ride in the
vanished world of white magic.
Instead, having to stay indoors
makes them return to
their virtual world of the sad beauty,
in graphics;
the surrogate
for healthy fun.
