Poets Day sounded right up my street. A weekly event.

My sister told me of Poets Day

My interest was aroused

At the idea of writing poetry

And reading it aloud.

A special day just for poets

For Hughes, Thomas and Keats

How often is it, I asked

She told me it's every week.

I've written one or two poems

And started to read the greats

A day spent with drink and rhymes

What a way to celebrate.

Poets day sounded amazing

It felt like I was dreaming

How could I possibly know

That it had another meaning.

I got there for mid-afternoon

But found I was all alone

When I asked where everyone was

I was told they’d all gone home.

That was the moment I realised

I’d took it the all wrong way

Turns out it’s an acronym for

Piss off early tomorrow's Saturday.
