Garbage

Down among the garbage is where I’ll make my home,

there won’t be no one with me so I’ll be all alone.

If I want some company the rats will be around

and carrion crows are pretty brave, I’ve already found.

The rats will help with digging as I rummage through this heap,

to make sure I stay hidden I’m going to have to dig real deep.

So the smell is pretty sickening, this putrid pile of rot,

but they won’t ever find me here, to even look they’d not.

One thing’s for sure, I’ll never starve, on all this waste I’ll feast,

no longer like a person now, I’m much more like a beast.

I’ll scavenge with the best of them, mould will not make me blink,

a maggot-ridden piece of flesh will give my teeth somewhere to sink.

The garbage dump gives refuge, gives me somewhere to defend

with the gulls, the rats, the carrion crows who I do now befriend.

Don’t try and make me move from here for I do know my place,

just leave me, let me vanish, leaving not a single trace.
